Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Gravide Kaninchen wurden am 9.
Notes: Summary At the 9th day of pregnancy gravid rabbits were exposed to an oxygen pressure of 1.5 or 2.0 ata (absolute atmospheres) for 5 hours. The mother rabbits were killed on the 29th day of pregnancy. The foets were taken off and the uteri studied for resorptions. After macroscopic inspection sceleton preparations were made and inspected for malformations. The results were compared with untreated controls. Hyperbaric oxygen resulted in increased resorption rate and number of malformations.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1.
Notes: Summary 1. On the 9th day of pregnancy plasma was drawn fractionally from hybrid rabbits under ether — oxygen — anaesthesia by intubation. 2. Fluid volume loss was compensated by infusion of 5 p.c. laevulose solution. 3. The offspring were investigated for skeletal malformation by autopsy. 4. 28 of the progeny had skeletal malformations concerning to the thoracic spine, the ribs, and sternum. 5. Control investigatins in 56 offspring showed no skeletal malformation. 6. The experimental results are discussed under aspects of malformation causation.

Notes: Summary On the 9th or 10th day of pregnancy female rabbits were cooled down in ether — oxygen — anaesthesia for 1–2 hours to a body temperature between 25.0°C and 27.5°C. 37 new born rabbits were studied after hypothermic influence. 22 of these showed malformations of the skeleton. On the other hand there were found normal skeletons by 51 control animals. It is possible that the malformations are caused by the decrease of the oxygen tension in the tissue or by the alteration of the electrolytes in the serum and the organs.

Notes: Summary To improve immune functions in an interleukin-2 (IL-2) deficient hemophiliac AIDS patient suffering from severePneumocystis carinii pneumonia, treatment with IL-2 was started in addition to standard antimicrobioal therapy. Highly purified IL-2 was administered subcutaneously and then repeatedly intralymphatically in a manner similar to pedal lymphography. No toxicity was observed. The patient temporarily improved clinically as well as with regard to immunological functions. Particularly the in vitro response to phytohemagglutinin (PHA) could partly be restored, and skin tests revealed improved response to recall antigens. These findings indicate that IL-2 can be administered safely and effectively by the intralymphatic route and may — in addition to antibiotics — be of value in AIDS patients with severe opportunistic infections.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Zur Erfassung sensibler embryonaler Entwicklungsphasen wurde graviden „Göttinger Miniaturschweinen“ 6-Amino-nicotinsäureamid intraperitoneal gespritzt.
Notes: Summary For the comprehension of sensible embryonal phases of development pregnant “Göttinger Miniaturschweine” were treated with intraperitoneal injection of 6-aminonicotinic acid amide with doses of 1, 5, 10 mg/kg body weight respectively. The sows were killed 1 week before the calculated birthtermin, the uteri were examined for resorption-marks and the fetuses explored for malformations. The treatment in the 10th day and 16th day of gestation with 5 and 10 mg/kg body weight caused multiple malformations. The malformation spectrum depended on the date of application. The treatment on the 23rd day of gestation caused no malformations.

Notes: Summary Monozygotic twins, both with Klinefelter's syndrome, are presented. One of them had clinical and serological evidence of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), whereas the other did not show any immunological disorder. In relation to this case of discordant SLE the role played by exogenous factors in triggering the manifestation of this autoimmune disease under a certain genetic predisposition is discussed.

Notes: Summary Fever was induced in pregnant rabbits at the 9th day of gestation by injection of a heat inactivated virus which had not lost its pyrogenic activity. The mother rabbits were killed on the 29th day of pregnancy, the fetuses taken out and the uteri examined for resorptions. The fetuses were inspected for organ malformations macroscopically and for skeleton malformations microscopically. The results were compared with those of control animals. The rise of temperature up to maximum 2,1° C above normal temperature resulted in no higher resorption and malformation rate.

Notes: Summary Chromosomal studies were carried out on nine patients with the Gorlin-Goltz syndrome using recently developed methods on cultured lymphocytes. In addition, the dermatoglyphics of these patients were examined. No evidence of a characteristic chromosome aberration was found in banded prometaphase-chromosome preparations, nor could increased chromosome breakage be demonstrated in eight of the patients. One proposita showed frequent breaks of Chromosome 1 at p22. Increased chromosome instability in these patients was suggested by higher spontaneous and mitomycin-C-induced sister chromatid exchange rates in patients than in controls. Although the dermatoglyphic findings cannot be regarded as specific for the Gorlin-Goltz syndrome, an increased occurrence of whorl patterns and white lines in patients' fingerprints was noted.

Notes: Abstract A case is described in which the family history and the sonographic findings during the 17th gestational week led to the suspicion of a short-rib-polydactylia syndrome of the Saldino-Noonan type and an abortion was induced. The ultrasound image disclosed cystic structures in the topographic area of the kidney, marked ascites and oligohydramnios and indicated a severe fetal developmental disturbance. Due to the oligohydramnios the extremities could not be interpreted sonographically. The pathological-anatomical findings confirmed the suspected short-rib-polydactylia syndrome of the Saldino-Noonan type. Typical skeletal changes, dysgenetic cystic kidneys and pancreatic fibrosis were especially indicative of the syndrome. The complete agenesia of the islets of Langerhans, present in our observation, has, as far as we know, previously not been reported in the case of short-rib-polydactylia syndromes.
