Notes:
Summary From January 1978 to March 1981, 116 cases of severe chronic cephalic pancreatitis were treated by partial duodenopancreatectomy combined with occlusion of the pancreatic duct with prolamin, as described by Gebhardt. The following results were obtained: the postoperative complications in 7.8 % were all treated successfully; hospital mortality was 0.86 % due to one fatal myocardial infarct. Mortality of 1.6%– 11 % is reported in the literature. In the follow-up data, late mortality was 3.4 % unrelated to pancreatitis; there was recurrence of chronic pancreatitis in 1 of 92 patients; 90.2 % were free of pain; 9.8 % had slight discomfort; there was an average weight increase of 7.8 kg in 85.9 %.
