Zusammenfassung In den letzten 10 Jahren wurden 53 rekonstruktive Eingriffe an der A. vertebralis durchgeführt. Die operative Belastung dieser Eingriffe ist gering und auch älteren Menschen zumutbar. Die postoperativen Ergebnisse sprechen für eine aktive Einstellung zur Gefäßrekonstruktion der A. vertebralis. Die Operationsmortalität betrug 0 %, die neurologischen Ergebnisse waren zufriedenstellend, oft eindrucksvoll. Verglichen mit 1651 Eingriffen an der A. carotis interna ist der Anteil der A. vertebralis gering. Erkennen wir die Vertebralis-Insuffizienz zu selten?

Summary During the last 10 years 53 reconstructive vascular operations on the vertebral artery have been performed in our clinic. The operative discomfort of these surgical interventions is of minor importance and may even be expected of patients well advanced in years. The postoperative results of reconstructive surgery of the vertebral artery are favorable. There was no mortality, and the neurological results were convincing and sometimes even impressive. Compared with the 1651 surgical interventions on the internal carotid artery, the number performed on the vertebral artery is remarkably low. Do we recognize vertebral insufficiency too seldom?
