Notes: Abstract A genetic manufacturing environment is considered. The emphasis is on small-lot, discrete, and asynchronous type of manufacturing systems rather than high volume and continuous type. Two classes of scheduling policies are proposed to render the machine stable. The policies are of feedback type. The decision is made in real-time and on-line.

Notes: Abstract Control design of nonlinear discrete-time uncertain systems with (possibly fast) uncertain parameters is considered. We study the effect of only partially compensating the uncertainty. The optimal choice of a design parameter, which indicates the amount of compensation, is recommended.

Notes: Abstract Robust control designs for a discrete Takagi and Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model are proposed. The T-S fuzzy model contains (possibly fast) time-varying uncertainty. First, a switching-type robust control is shown to stabilize the T-S fuzzy model asymptotically. Second, a saturation-type robust control is shown to render the T-S model practically stable. In both designs, only the bound of uncertainty is needed. The effectiveness of proposed designs is analyzed rigorously and illustrated by simulations.

Notes: Abstract We consider a class of large-scale uncertain delay systems. The uncertain parameter vector in the system is possibly fast time-varying. It may be nonlinear in the system dynamics. No statistical or fuzzy information of the uncertainty is known. Based on only the possible bound of the uncertain parameter, a decentralized linear robust control is proposed, which renders the system asymptotically stable.

Notes: Abstract We consider the robust control design problem for a class of nonlinear uncertain systems. The uncertainty in the system may be due to parameter variations and/or nonlinearity. It may be possibly fast, time-varying. The system does not satisfy the so-called matching condition. Under a state transformation, which is based on the possible bound of the uncertainty, a robust control scheme can be designed. The control renders the original uncertain system practically stable. Furthermore, the uniform ultimate boundedness ball and uniform stability ball of the original system can be made arbitrarily small by suitable choice of design parameters.

Notes: Abstract Linear control design of nonlinear discrete-time uncertain systems with (possibly fast) uncertain parameters is considered. The possible uncertainty bound needs to be within a threshold. The threshold in turn is dependent on a design parameter. To achieve the maximum threshold by an optimal choice of the design parameter, a constrained optimization problem is proposed. The optimal compensation of the uncertainty is in general a partial compensation.

Notes: Enzyme IIA and HPr are central regulatory proteins of the bacterial phosphoenolpyruvate:sugar phosphotransferase (PTS) system. Three-dimensional structures of the glucose enzyme IIA domain (IIAglc) and HPr of Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli have been studied by both X-ray crystallography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Spectroscopy. Phosphorylation of HPr of B. subtilis and IIAglc of E. coli have also been characterized by NMR spectroscopy. In addition, the binding interfaces of B. subtilis HPr and IIAglc have been identified from backbone chemical shift changes. This paper reviews these recent advances in the understanding of the three-dimensional structures of HPr and IIAglc and their interaction with each other. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.
