    Description / Table of Contents: Structural Chemistry of Compounds Cs[MF4(H2O)2] (M = Al, Cr, Mn, Fe)The compounds Cs[MF4(H2O)2] (M = Al, Br, Fe) have been prepared and the structures explored by means of X-ray diffraction, in the case of the Al compound on a single crystal. They crystallize isotypic with Rb[VF4(H2O)2] and Cs[MnF4(H2O)2] in space group I2/a, Z = 4 [Cs]AlF4(H2O)2: a = 882.4(3); b = 667.8(1); c = 1 002.4(3) pm; β = 105.14°; R = 0.025 for 1685 reflections. Cs[CrF4(H2O)2]: a = 895.3; b = 669.1; c = 1 014.5; β = 104.40°. Cs[FeF4(H2O)2]: a = 906.6; b = 673.1; c = 1 027.2; β = 104.73°). The [AlF4(H2O)2]- anions with trans aqua ligands are linked via strong H-bonds (O…F 257-251 pm) to form chains which are further connected to a 3-dim. network. This is expressed as well in the i.r. spectra. The thermal decomposition leads, in one step, to the water free tetrafluorometallates.
    Notes: Die Verbindungen Cs[MF4(H2O)2] (M = Al, Cr, Fe) wurden dargestellt und ihre Strukturen röntgenographisch - im Falle der Al-Verbindung an einem Einkristall - untersucht. Sie kristallisieren isotyp zu Rb[VF4(H2O)2] und Cs[MnF4(H2O)2] in Raumgruppe I2/a, Z = 4 [Cs[AlF4(H2O)2]]: a = 882,4(3); b = 667,8(1); c = 1 002,4(3) pm; β = 105,14°; R = 0,025 für 1 685 Reflexe. Cs[CrF4(H2O)2]: a = 895,3; b = 669,1; c = 1 014,5; β = 104,40°. Cs[FeF4(H2O)2]: a = 906,6; b = 673,1; c = 1 027,2; β = 104,73°). Die [AlF4(H2O)2]--Anionen mit transständigen Aqualiganden sind über starke H-Brücken (O…F 257-261 pm) zu dreidimensional vernetzten Ketten miteinander verbunden. Dies kommt auch in den IR-Spektren zum Ausdruck. Die thermische Zersetzung führt einstufig zu den wasserfreien Tetrafluorometallaten.

    Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and FTIR Spectra of the Oxoniumfluorometallates DienH2(H3O)[AlF6] and DienH2(H3O)[FeF6]Single crystals of the compounds DienH2(H3O)[AlF6] and DienH2(H3O)[FeF6] (Dien = Diethylenediamine or Piperazine) were obtained from aqueous HF solution. The compounds are isotypic and crystallize in the monoclinic space group P21/c, Z = 8 with the unit cell parameters a = 1333.7(3), b = 1261.8(3), c = 1234.5(2) pm, β = 115.79(3)° (Al compound) and a = 1354.0(3), b = 1267.5(3), c = 1255.9(3) pm, β = 115.48(3)° (Fe compound).The crystal structure consists of isolated [MF6]3- anions, H3O+ and DienH22+ cations. The [MF6]3- octahedra are connected via very strong O—H … F and N—H … F-bridges forming a three dimensional network structure. This strong hydrogen bonding was confirmed by the FTIR spectra.
    Notes: Einkristalle der Verbindungen DienH2(H3O) · [AlF6] und DienH2(H3O)[FeF6] (Dien = Diethylendiamin bzw. Piperazin) wurden aus wäßriger HF-Lösung erhalten. Die Verbindungen sind isotyp und kristallisieren monoklin in der Raumgruppe P21/c, Z = 8 mit den Gitterkonstanten a = 1333,7(3), b = 1261,8(3), c = 1234,5(2) pm, β = 115,79(3)° (Aluminiumverbindung) und a = 1354,0(3), b = 1267,5(3), c = 1255,9(3) pm, β = 115,48(3)° (Eisenverbindung). Die Struktur besteht aus isolierten [MF6]3--Anionen sowie H3O+- und DienH22+-Kationen. über zahlreiche sehr starke O—H … F sowie N—H … F-Brücken werden die [MF6]3--Oktaeder zu einem dreidimensionalen Netzwerk verknüpft. Diese H-Brücken-Vernüpfung spiegelt sich auch in den FTIR-Spektren wider.

    Description / Table of Contents: On the Thermal Decomposition of Ammonium Fluoro ChromatesThe thermal decomposition of the ammonium fluoro chromates (NH4)2[CrF5(H2O)], (NH4)3CrF6, and (NH4)2[Cr(H2O)6]F5 has been investigated by thermoanalytical and X-ray investigations. Steps of decomposition are the formation of (NH4)3CrF6 und NH4CrF4. Further the formation of a chromium fluoride ammoniate CrF3 · xNH3 (x ≥ 1) has been detected. The end product of decomposition is the rhomboedrical CrF3. The hydrolysis reactions have been suppressed by using quasi-isobaric conditions. As by-reaction a partial reduction of CrF3 has been detected leading to the formation of Cr2F5.
    Notes: Die thermische Zersetzung der Ammoniumfluorochromate (NH4)2[CrF5(H2O)], (NH4)3CrF6 und (NH4)2[Cr(H2O)6]F5 wird thermoanalytisch und röntgenographisch untersucht. Die Zersetzung verläuft in jedem Falle über (NH4)3CrF6 und NH4CrF4. Außerdem wird die Bildung eines Chromfluorid-Ammoniakats CrF3 · xNH3 (x ≥ 1) nachgewiesen. Endprodukt der Zersetzung ist rhomboedrisches CrF3. Hydrolysereaktionen können durch Anwendung quasi-isobarer Bedingungen weitestgehend unterdrückt werden. Als Nebenreaktion wird eine partielle Reduktion von CrF3 nachgewiesen, die zur Bildung von Cr2F5 führt.
