Notes: ---Cyclodextrins (CD's) were visualized by postcolumn mixing with 2-p-toluidinylnaphthalene sulfonate (TNS) in liquid chromatography. The indirect detection is based on fluorescence enhancement due to the formation of an inclusion complex between TNS and CD's. β-CD gave larger signal intensity than α- and γ-CD. Different selectivities were observed for alkyl-bonded silica stationary phases with different chain length.

Notes: Capillary columns of 0.3-0.35 mm internal diameter and 0.3-7.7 m length, packed with 3 to 30 μm octadecylsilica stationary phases as used for liquid chromatography, were applied to gas chromatographic separation of low boiling hydrocarbons. Van Deemter plots for these columns showed the optimum column efficiency to occur at linear velocities of 4-5 cm/s. A short column was applied to the rapid separation of components of a natural gas and impurities in standard gases, while a long column was applied to the separation of complex mixtures.

Notes: The effects of γ-cyclodextrin and bovine serum albumin as mobile phase additives on fluorescence intensity and retention of dansyl amino acids (Dns-AAs) have been examined in microcolumn liquid chromatography. Polymercoated mixed-functional silica packings were employed for the separation column. The concentrations of the additives, acetonitrile, and buffer affected the signal intensity and retention of DNA-AAs. The use of the mobile phase additives improved the detection limits by a factor of as much as 7.4. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
