Notes:
Summary Fixation of small corticocancellous bone fragments of rabbit ilium using fibrin glue revealed excellent adhesive power during the operation (100p/cm2) and post-operatively (day 8: 1,300p/cm2) and accelerated fracture healing. In order to improve repair of extensive bone defects, segmental tibia defects in dogs (extension 1 cm) were replaced using cancellous-bone-fibrin plugs (CBFP, 3:1). Microangiographical studies, uptake of99m'Tc-MDP and polychrome sequential labelling of new bone formation indicated acceleration of vascular sprouting and rapid osseous bridging. Our clinical experience comprises the application of fibrin adhesion for haemostatic tamponade of bone cavities (25), for fixation of bone fragments, and for refilling skeletal defects, used as CBFP (41).
