Notes: Five yellow 2-hydroxy-5-methoxybenzoquinones with C15 and C17 alkyl side chains were isolated from fruitbodies of the wood-rotting fungus Phlebia chryoscrea. The compounds, named phlebiachrysoic acids A-E are strong inhibitors of leukotriene biosynthesis and are responsible for the red colour reaction when the fruitbodies are touched with aqueous alkali.

Notes: Arcyriacyanin A (1) has been synthesized by three different routes. In the first synthesis the bisbromomagnesium salt of 2,4′-biindole (5) was treated with dibromomaleimide (6) to yield arcyriacyanin A (1). The second approach used an intramolecular Heck reaction for the cyclization of a 4-(triflyloxy)arcyriarubin 8 to N-methylarcyriacyanin A (2). Thirdly, compound 2 was obtained by a domino Heck reaction between 3-bromo-4-[1-(tert-butoxycarbonyl)indol-3-yl]-1-methylmaleimide (9) and 4-bromoindole (10). The N-methyl derivative 2 could be transformed into arcyriacyanin A (1) by standard methods.

Notes: Novel Diterpenoids from the Toadstools Tricholoma aurantium and T. fracticum (Agaricales)Herrn Professor Dr. Heinz G. Floss zum 60. Geburtstag gewidmet. Two novel diterpenoids trichaurantin (1) and its 6-O-acetyl derivative 2 have been isolated from Tricholoma species. Their structures were established by spectroscopic methods and an X-ray crystal analysis, 1 and 2 appear to be biosynthetically related to the neodolabellane and dolastane group of diterpenes and can be designated as 2,3-seconeodolastane derivatives.

Description / Table of Contents: Fungus Pigments, 4141).  -  Naphthoquinone Pigments from the Slime Moulds Trichia floriformis and Metatrichia vesparium (Myxomycetes)Trichione (1) is the red main pigment of fruiting bodies from the slime mould Trichia floriformis. It contains a 2,5-dihydroxynaphthoquinone chromophore, substituted in position 3 by an unsaturated side chain carrying a terminal hemimalonate moiety. Homotrichione (7) differs by the presence of two additional CH2 groups in the side chain. It co-occurs with arcyriaflavin B (5), arcyriaflavin C (6) and further pigments in Metatrichia vesparium.

Description / Table of Contents: Reaction of Acylaminobromomalonates and Acylaminobromoacetates with Trialkylphosphites - A Simple Synthesis of Ethyl 2-Amino-2-(diethoxyphosphoryl)acetateDepending on the reaction conditions acylaminobromomalonates 1 and trialkylphosphites yield either 5-alkoxyoxazoles 7, 2-[acyl(dialkoxyphosphoryl)amino]malonates 8, or 2-acylamino-2-(dialkoxyphosphoryl)malonates 2. N-Acylglycin esters 9 can be converted into the corresponding α-bromo derivatives 10 by treatment with bromine or N-bromosuccinimide. Treatment of 10 with trialkylphosphites yields 2-acylamino-2-(dialkoxyphosphoryl)acetates 12. Removal of the protecting groups from the Boc or trichloroethoxycarbonyl derivatives 12g and 12h, respectively, leads to ethyl 2-amino-2-(diethoxyphosphoryl)acetate (11). Reaction of 10a with triphenylphosphane yields the phosphonium salt 14a which is converted into the 2,3-bis(benzoylamino)fumarate 18 by action of base.

Description / Table of Contents: Rearrangement of 2-Allyl-5(2H)-oxazolones into Tetrahydro-3H-furo[3,4-b]pyrrole Derivatives Catalyzed by Lewis AcidsBy Lewis acid catalysis the 2-allyl-5(2H)-oxazolones 1 and 4 rearrange to 6-oxo-3a,4,6,6a-tetrahydro-3H-furo[3,4-b]pyrroles 3 and 5, respectively. The structure of these compounds has been established from their spectroscopic data and by hydrogenation of 5 to the lactone 6. A mechanism for this rearrangement is proposed.

Description / Table of Contents: Fungal Pigments, 60. - Leucomentins, Colourless Precursors of Atromentin from the Mushroom Paxillus atrotomentosusAtromentin (1) occurs in sporophores of Paxillus atrotomentosus mainly in form of the colourless leucomentins 3-5. These compounds constitute esters of leucoatromentin with (2Z,4S,5S)-4,5-epoxy-2-hexenoic acid. The absolute configuration of the latter has been determined by its conversion into (+)-O-acetylosmundalactone (6a). The mechanism of the acid-catalyzed cleavage of the acyl residues has been studied by means of 18O labeling.
