Notes: Summary GABA synthesis in skin fibroblasts from patients with Huntington's chorea was compared with that in a control group by means of the highly specific 3H-muscimol radioreceptor assay. A significantly increased rate of GABA synthesis was found in the group with Huntington's chorea in an early cell passage. The possible use of this method for early diagnosis of Huntington's chorea is considered.

Notes: Summary A recently developed technique is used to study the permeation of water through membranes of human erythrocyte ghosts. The method, based on the difference of the indices of refraction of H2O and D2O, is briefly described. Comparative measurements on erythrocyte ghosts from normal donors and from patients with Huntington's disease were performed. The calculated permeability coefficients for the two groups were almost identical and did not allow differentiation between the controls and patients with Huntington's disease.

Notes: Summary Electron spin resonance (ESR) studies were carried out with MAL-6 as spin label on erythrocytes from 21 patients with Huntington's disease (HD) and 18 controls. No significant difference was found between the ESR spectra from HD patients and controls. These findings do not support the theory that HD is a generalized membrane defect.
