Notes: Summary In 31 nonselected male adult outpatients with primary gout, the activity of hypoxanthine-guanine phosphoribosyl transferase (H-G-PRTase) was studied in hemolysates of erythrocytes. All patients had normal erythrocyte H-G-PRTase activity, irrespective of their being normoexcretors or hyperexcretors of uric acid. Thus, partial deficiency of H-G-PRTase is responsible for primary gout in adults only in a minority of cases.
