Notizen: A new blood microfilter, Swank 6000–4, was compared with three established blood microfilters. Pall SQ40S, Fenwal 4C2423 and Intercept HR 18137–00 (1321). The flow rate decreased with increasing volume of filtered blood with all the microfilters (p 〈 0.01). When the flow rates through each type of microfilter were compared there was no significant difference between them. Screen filtration pressure was restored to normal by the Swank, Fenwal and Intercept microfilters, but remained higher after filtration through the Pall microfilter (p 〈 0.01). There was no evidence of red cell loss or damage with any of the microfilters after filtration.

Notizen: Summary The effect of product gases, H2 and CO2, on solvent production was studied using a continuous culture of alginate-immobilized Clostridium acetobutylicum. Initially, in order to find the optimum dilution rate for aceton--butanol production in this system, fermentations were carried out at various dilution rates. With 10% H2 and 10% CO2 in the sparging gas, a dilution rate of 0.07 h−1 was found to maximize volumetric productivity (0.58 g·l−1·h−1), while the maximum specific productivity of 0.27 g−·h−1 occured at 0.12 h−1. Continuous cultures with vigorous sparging of N2 produced only acids. It was concluded that in the case of continuous fermentation H2 is essential for good solvent production, although good solvent production is possible in an H2-absent environment in the case of batch fermentations. When the fermentation was carried out at atmospheric pressure under H2-enriched conditions, the presence of CO2 in the sparging gas did not slow down glucose metabolism; rather it changed the direction of the phosphoroclastic reaction and as a result increased the butanol/acetone ratio.

Notizen: Abstract The detailed oxidation behavior of Fe–10Cr alloys, containing aluminumin the range of 2–8% by weight, was studied in pure oxygen at 1 atmpressure. The investigations were performed over the temperature range950–1050°C under cyclic conditions (3-hr cycles) in each case. Thecyclic-oxidation resistance, as measured by the specific weight-gain values, was observed to progressively improve with increasing aluminum content inthe alloy. For a particular aluminum content, however, the oxidationresistance decreased with increasing temperature. Following the initialtransient-oxidation period, a healing layer of chromia was established onthe four alloys. The lower-aluminum alloys (2–4% Al) were observedto end up with Fe-rich oxide scales under the experimental conditions atall temperatures, whereas those containing aluminum in the range of6–8% formed α-Al2O3 scales.
