    Abstract: Summary Three crystalline forms of androstadione (5α-androstane-3,17dione) were pointed out and characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, infrared spectrophotometry and X-ray diffraction analysis: form I, the most frequent, form II, instable, and form III, not yet described, a pseudopolymorphe one: androstadione 4-H2O:1.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Existenz einer zweiten, polymorphen Modifikation des Androsterons wurde bestätigt. Deren thermoanalytische und kristallographische Merkmale wurden durch differentielle Enthalpiebestimmung sowie durch Röntgenbeugungsanalyse ermittelt. Erhöhung der Temperatur auf 165° C, Verreiben der Substanz oder längere Aufbewahrung bei Zimmertemperatur führen zur Rückbildung der stabileren Modifikation I.
    Abstract: Summary The existence of a second polymorphic form of androsterone has been confirmed. The thermoanalytical and crystallographical characteristics of this form II were determined by differential enthalpic analysis and X-ray diffraction analysis. Raising the temperature to 165° C, trituration or prolonged maintenance at ambient temperature regenerates the more stable form I.
    Notes: Résumé L'existence d'une deuxième forme polymorphe de l'androstérone est confirmée. Les caractéristiques thermoanalytiques et cristallographiques de cette forme II ont été déterminées par analyse enthalpique différentielle et analyse par diffraction des rayons X. L'élévation de la température à 165° C, le broyage ou le maintien prolongé à température ambiante régénèrent la forme I, plus stable.

    Description / Table of Contents: Résumé La détermination de la pureté par DSC est dérivée de la méthode cryoscopique. La principale difficulté réside dans l'absence de linéarité de la relation expérimentaleT i=f(1/F i) et dans la correction qu'elle implique. Compte tenu de cette situation, une méthode de calcul basée sur l'analyse mathématique de la relation expérimentale est proposée, discutée et illustrée.
    Abstract: Zusammenfassung Die Reinheitsbestimmung durch DSC wird von der kryoskopischen Methode abgeleitet. Die grösste Schwierigkeit besteht in der Krümmung der experimentellen Funktion Ti=f(1/F i) und in der erforderlichen Korrektur. Unter dieser Berücksichtigung wird eine auf der mathematischen Analyse des experimentellen Zusammenhanges beruhende Berechnungsmethode vorgeschlagen, diskutiert und veranschaulicht.
    Notes: Abstract Purity determination by DSC is based on the cryoscopic method. The main difficulty lies in the curvature of theT i=f(1/F i,) experimental plot and in the necessary corrections. Taking this situation into account, a method of calculation based on mathematical analysis of the experimental relation is proposed, discussed and illustrated.

    Notes: Abstract As part of a continuing program on the development of primary vibration standards, an electrodynamic standard was modified so that it is free of transverse motion throughout almost all of its frequency range. The rectilinear sinusoidal motion produced by the standard is achieved by suspending the moving parts of the standard from the frame by tensioned wires. The standard consists of an electrodynamic vibration exciter equipped with a velocity-sensing coil which is calibrated by the reciprocity method. In the vibration-pickup calibration service recently established at the National Bureau of Standards, the standard is used at frequencies from 10 to 2000 cps at accelerations up to 10 g. The errors of the motion applied to the pickups do not exceed 1% up to 900 cps and 2% between 900 and 2000 cps. Government and industrial research laboratories use selected electrodynamic velocity, variable resistance and piezoelectric acceleration vibration pickups calibrated on the standard as secondary vibration standards. If properly used these secondary standards can be used to calibrate other pickups by measuring the ratio of their outputs.
