    Notes: Abstract An analogue of sendide, [DTrp7]sendide, was newly synthetized and evaluated as a putative NK1 receptor antagonist in a mouse behavioural test. Effects of [DTrp7]sendide on the scratching, biting and licking response induced by substance P (SP), neurokinin A (NK A) and neurokinin B (NK B) was studied after intrathecal injections. When administered simultaneously with SP, an endogenous agonist for NK1 receptors, [DTrp7]sendide inhibited the behavioural response to this tachykinin in a dose-dependent manner with ID50 value of 1 t.0 pmol/mouse. The behavioural response elicited by other NK1 receptor agonists, septide and physalaemin, was reduced significantly by a small dose (32.0 pmol) of [DTrp7]sendide. Large doses (nmol order) of [DTrp7]sendide were needed to reduce the characteristic behaviour of NK A, an NK2 agonist, NK B, an NK3 agonist and eledoisin, an NK2/NK3 agonist. The duration of the antagonistic effect of [DTrp7]sendide was relatively longer. In a [3H]labeled SP binding assay using mouse spinal cord membranes, [DTrp7]sendide potently displaced [3H] labeled SP binding with a Ki value of 0.023 ± 0.007 nM, which was approximately 140 and 9400 times more potent than that of unlabeled SP and CP-96,345, respectively. These findings suggest that [DTrp7]sendide interacts selectively with the NK1 receptor in the mouse spinal cord as assayed by the receptor binding and SP-induced behavioural tests.

    Notes: Abstract The limiting amounts of solubilization of water in the concentration range 0–200 mmol kg−1 polyoxyethylene (6 and 10) nonylphenyl ethers (NP-6 and NP-10)/cyclohexane solutions were measured by the Karl-Fischer method at 25°C. Utilizing NMR, ESR, and near infrared spectroscopic techniques, the states of water in the solubilization region obtained were examined as a function of the molar ratio of water to surfactants at various surfactant concentrations. In NP-6 system, three solubilized states of water, i.e., water interacted directly with the oxyethylene moiety of surfactant, bound water next to the hydrated oxyethylene moiety, and bulk-like water were built up. However, in NP-10 system only directly interacted water was present. It was found that the directly interacted water is distributed between monomeric surfactants and reversed micelles, and others are distributed to swollen micelles and W/O microemulsions. In addition, the minimum amounts of water required to form reversed and swollen micelles were calculated.

Eine Gleichgewichtstheorie, die den Einfluß der Konzentration erläutern kann, wurde vorgeschlagen. Die Gleichgewichtkonstanten und die Konzentrationen der Oberflächensitze wutden für das oben erwähnte System berechner.
    Notes: Summary The concentration effect of surfactants on zetapotential in nonaqueous suspensions was classified into two main types. The type A in which the maximum appears is more important. The result obtained for carbon black dispersed in the cyclohexane solutions of Aerosol OT or dodecylammonium butyrate showed the type A. An equilibrium theory elucidating the concentration effect was proposed and the equilibrium constants and the surface site concentrations were estimated for one of the above systems, using the relation between ion and surfactant concentrations obtained previously.

    Notes: Abstract The machinability of mica glass-ceramics is evaluated using a tool dynamometer. Several samples with different chemical compositions and microstructures were tested in turning operations using TiCN cermet tools. The cutting rate dependence of specific cutting energy has been studied to find a simple method for the evaluation of machinability. The mechanical strength, the surface roughness of the machined surface and the fracture toughness were measured to support the machining behaviour. For the determination of machinability, the specific cutting energy at low cutting rate conditions, neglecting an elastic impact effect, and the slope of the log-log plot of the specific cutting energy versus cutting rate were considered as the reasonable parameters. These results are correlated with the microstructure and the hardness of the workpiece. In particular, the microhardness of the sample is shown to control the cutting characteristic.

    Notes: Abstract Sol-gel processed lanthanum-modified lead zirconate titanate (PLZT) thin films consisting of two different perovskite phase contents were fabricated on indium tin oxide coated Corning 7059 glass substrates with two different heating schedules: direct insertion at 650° C for 30 min and at 500° C for 2h. Optical transmittance spectra, polarization versus electric field curves, relative dielectric constant versus frequency and capacitance versus d.c. bias voltage curves of the samples were investigated. The samples showed a good transparency of over 70% and interference oscillation. A thin film consisting of mainly perovskite phase showed a slim loop hysteresis in the polarization versus electric field curve and in the capacitance versus d.c. bias voltage curve, indicating the presence of ferroelectric domains, but a film consisting of mainly pyrochlore phase did not. The dielectric constant and loss factor of the thin film consisting of mainly perovskite phase were about 90 and about 0.2, respectively, at relatively low frequency and showed dispersion of the dipolar polarization of permanent dipole moment in the ferroelectric perovskite phase in the frequency range between 10 kHz and 1 MHz.
