Metaltrifluorophosphine Complexes, XXXIIIStructural Problems of Tetrakis(trifluorophosphine)iron Dihydride and its Alkali Metal SaltsFor the hydrido complex H2Fe(PF3)4 (1) 1H-, 19F- and 31P n.m.r. spectra show a temperaturedependant rearrangement equilibrium. Near the boiling point (87°) the PF3 groups are on the average tetrahedrally arranged around the central metal atom, while the hydrogen atoms change positions (tunneling). From the unsymmetrical Mössbauer spectrum it is evident that at very low temperatures (-70°) 1 exists as a mixture of cis and trans isomers. For the salt K2[Fe(PF3)4] (2) n.m.r. and Mössbauer spectra prove Td-symmetry, whereas the hydrogen salt K[HFe(PF3)4] (3) has a trigonal bipyramidal structure which is distorted towards a tetrahedron. A comparison of the Mössbauer spectra of J2FeL4, FeL5, H2FeL4, K[HFeL4], and K2[FeL4] (L == PF3 or CO) shows that the molecular symmetries of corresponding PF3- and CO-complexes are identical. Furthermore it is shown that the sum of the s̰-donor and π-acceptor ability is smaller with PF3 than with CO.
Notes:
