Description / Table of Contents: Résumé 1.
Notes: Abstract A study has been made regarding the action of the hydrocortisone, testosterone and 17β-estradiol on isolated liver and spleen tissue homogenates or slices of male and female adults of the fish Trachurus mediterraneus ponticus. The results showed a decrease of the oxygen uptake and of the cytochrome oxydase and succinic dehydrogenase activity of the liver homogenate after hydrocortisone administration, while this hormone increased significantly the lactic acid production in both tissues. Testosterone acted in an opposite manner to hydrocortisone by increasing the intensity of oxygen consumption and the succinic dehydrogenase activity, but decreased the lactic acid production of the liver and spleen tissue preparations. Estradiol decreased the oxygen consumption of the liver, the cytochrome oxydase activity and the lactic acid production in both tissues of female Trachurus mediterraneus ponticus.

Notes: Summary Hydrocortisone hemisuccinate within 4 hours afterin vivo administration produces an increase in precursor incorporation into rat thymus RNA and proteins in the whole animal. From these results, together with information obtained from measurements of the tyrosine aminotransferase activity and the action of mitomycin C administered one hour before the injection of hydrocortisone, it can be concluded that the increase in tissue level of the enzyme, consequent to hydrocortisone treatment, results from an increased rate of biosynthesis of the enzyme, which participates in the catabolic processes of proteins in glucocorticoid sensitive thymus cells.

Notes: Summary Autoradiography and biochemical investigations showed that [3H]-testosterone where injected intraperitoneally into male white rats was incorporated rapidly into thymus lymphocytes. Thymic cortex contained more silver grains than medulla, and larger lymphocytes were more labelled than medium or small lymphocytes. Cytosol fraction of thymus cells labelledin vivo with [3H]-testosterone, contained the largest quantity of labelled hormone. A 4S cytosol fraction binds [3H]-testosterone. This could be separated by Sephadex chromatography or by linear sucrose gradient centrifugation. Nuclear extract contained also a small quantity of the labelled hormone.

Notes: Summary A sensitive capillary gas chromatographic method is described for the simultaneous determination of lidocaine, tetracaine, procaine and dibucaine. The method was applied to the determination of anesthetics in tissue homogenates incubated at 38°C at doses between 10 and 400 mg/kg. In the liver tissue thein vitro metabolization of the studied anesthetics is most rapid for tetracaine, also fast for procaine, while for lidocaine and dibucaine the metabolization is very slow. In brain tissue thein vitro metabolization of anesthetics is very slow. The method shows good analytical parameters: linearity between 5 and 40 μg/ml; day-to-day reproducibility ca. 8% for a concentration of 20 μg/ml, precision ca. 7% for a concentration of 20μg/ml. Accuracy is also very good.
