Notes: Abstract A method of simultaneous parametrization of one- and two-body interactions on atomic hyperfine structure of configurationl N is proposed and applied for the analysis of the configuration (6p)3 in the bismuth atom. For this purpose, the hyperfine structure splittings of the levels2D 3 2/0 ,2D 5 2/0 and2P 1 2/0 were measured. The finally obtained values of HFS parameters are: for one-body parameters (in MHz):a p 01 =2,537(9),a p 12 =5,182 (12),a′10=−2,019(10),b p 02 =−3,198(53),b p 11 =2,816(54); for two-body parameters (in MHz):x pp ′/01 ,2=284(3),x pp ′/12 ,2=581(5),x pf ′/12 ,2=170(70),x pp ′/02 ,2=−359(36),x pf ′/02 ,2=−33(100). The value of the quadrupole moment of the nucleus 83 209 Bi is also discussed.

Notes: Summary Based on former experiments dealing with a quantitative assay of acid phosphatase (acP) activity in histological sections by means of a laser microanalysis. The authors present results of investigations concerning optimal conditions needed for this purpose. The investigations were performed on rat liver sections. The realtion between incubation time and depth of acP reaction appearing in tissue blocks was investigated along with the dependence of photometric readings on thickness of histological sections and on incubation times. From results of experiments it appears that optimal conditions for quantitative determination of acP activity using the proposed laser method are provided by sections 30 to 50 μ in thickness which have been incubated in the substrate containing medium for 45 min. Sections thinner than 30 μ are not recommended for quantitative assay with this method because of low accuracy of readings caused by too low amounts of reaction product present there.

Notes: Summary Further investigations on the applicability of the laser technique for qantitative purposes in histochemistry were conducted. Special attention has been paid to the relationship between the volume of the crater burnt out in the tissue by laser ray treatment and the photometric readings of the spectral bands. A statistical evalution of the measurements of crater volumes for quantitative histochemistry as well as determination of the error of the former method used and previously described (Kozik et al., 1970b) have been performed. Special agar standards containing known amounts of Pb(NO3)2 and appropriately prepared photographic plates were used. From the results obtained it appeared that the variances calculated for the differences between density of spectral bands for the Pb present in the investigated sample and the density of the respective band for the Ag present in the photographic plate fall in the range of between 14.1 and 19.7%, whereas the error of the method in which the density of spectral bands was related to the crater volumes covered a range from 3.45–7.7%. Based on the discussion of results the authors conclude that both methods of acP assay in histological slices by means of laser microanalysis may be successfully used.

Notes: Summary A new method of quantification of the acid phosphatase activity assay by means of laser rays along with spectrography and photometry is described. Calculated ΔS values, representing differences between densities of the spectral bands corresponding to Pb and Ag account for the amount of acP activity. The presented laser method enables a relative evaluation of the acP activity in a given region, yielding results which can be objectively expressed by figures. A special advantage of the presented method is, that it allows to compare the individual acP activities in different regions of the investigated organ, which may be of importance for the quantitative chemoarchitectonic of the brain.

Notes: Summary This work is a continuation of investigations concerning the applicability of laser analysis in histochemical techniques (Kozik et al., 1970a, b; Kozik et al., 1971a, b).Agar standards containing known amounts of Pb were subjected to laser microanalysis and optical densities of the resulting Pb spectral bands as well as volumes of the resultant craters were determined.—Based on mathematical considerations and equation has been educed by means of which the experimentally obtained photometric readings may be converted into densities corresponding to mean crater volumes. In that way it is possible to eliminate inconveniences resulting from diversity of individual crater volumes and from eventual differences in the degree of atomic excitation between samples. Using this method, the concentrations of the investigated element in histological slices become expressed in percentages.

Notes: Abstract: The laser-induced resonance fluorescence in an atomic beam was used in order to measure the hyperfine splitting of the 4f 7 6s 2 and 4f7 6s6p levels in 151,153,155Eu isotopes. The hfs constants A and B of the unstable 155Eu were determined for the first time: MHz, MHz and MHz. With these data and after corrections for second-order hyperfine structure perturbations the nuclear moments of 155Eu were deduced: n.m. and b. In addition new and more precise values of the hfs constants of the excited state for the stable 151,153Eu were obtained. They are as follows: MHz, MHz and MHz, MHz. The hyperfine anomalies % and % were extracted from the corrected hfs constants.

Notes: Abstract: We report on further investigations of the hyperfine structure of spectral lines of the neutral tantalum atom. Besides determination of the hyperfine constants A and B of 21 levels we report on the discovery of 9 up to now unknown fine structure levels for which we could determine their energy position, parity, angular momentum and the constants A and B. For a large number of up to now unclassified lines the combinations could be identified.
