Notes: The mechanical properties of bone have been found varying at different structural levels. The different mechanical properties might indicate some important information, such as theultrastructure of various bone tissue. Descriptions of the structural features of bone are intensive incurrent studies. However, the mechanical properties of bone, in particular those at the micro-andnanostructural level (material level) remain poorly understood. To probe the mechanical propertiesat the microstuctural level, the nanoindentation technique is applied. Nanoindentation as apromising technique is widely used in the materials science community for probing the mechanicalproperties of thin films, small volumes, and small microstructural features. Nanoindentation hasbeen shown to be an effective method to probe the mechanical properties of microstructures at themicron scale

Notes: In this study, fatigue strength of load-carrying cruciform fillet welded joints were evaluatedusing a new method proposed by Yamada, for geometric or structural stress in welded joint, that is,one-millimeter stress below the surface in the direction corresponding to the expected crack path.Validity of the method is verified by analyzing fatigue test results for load-carrying cruciform weldedspecimens has different size of weld toe radius, leg length and plate thickness reported inliterature. Structural stress concentration factor for 1mm below the surface was calculated by finiteelement analysis for each specimen respectively. When compared to the basic fatigue resistance curveoffered by BS7608, the one-millimeter stress method shows conservative evaluation for load-carryingcruciform fillet welded joints

Notes: The effect of axial loading resulting from torque on the fatigue life of bolts has beeninvestigated. It was found that the fatigue limit of bolts increased by an amount proportional to theincrease in torque. There was a linear relationship between torque and fatigue limit. Using the Shigleymethod, the prediction of fatigue limit from calculated stress concentration factors was alsoexamined. A good correlation was found between the experimental and predicted fatigue limit. TheShigley method was appropriate for the prediction of fatigue life of bolts

Notes: The Combine is necessary equipment in the agricultural industry. The components of the Combine are worked for a long time under inferior environmental condition. Especially reaping knife is worked in high frequency domain, and submit fatigue load while use. So, fatigue test was performed to obtain the S-N curve of real component, and load history is measured through field test. The local stresses due to these loads have been calculated by FEM. These results have been used as the input values for the multi-axial fatigue analysis of real components. For the assessment ofmulti-axial fatigue damage, the critical plane methods have been employed. The used parameters of critical plane methods are Morrow’s, Smith-Waston-Topper’s, and Brown-Miller’s, those were modified for the high cycle fatigue region within elastic behavior. In addition, design improvement is performed about shape of reaping knife to increase the endurance limit, and durability test forimproved knife is performed. It is found that the fatigue life of improved reaping knife is increased, and durability test result show that life of reaping knife is increased enough

Notes: The fatigue life of hexagon head and socket head bolts, attached to vehicle a wheel, is assessed and the estimation of the residual life of existing bolts in vehicle wheel is investigated. Field- measured load histories were applied in this test. Tensile tests and fatigue tests were performed to evaluate the effect of tightening torque and to obtain the basic experimental data. A three-dimensional finite element analysis was also performed to evaluate the local stress fields. Miner’s rule was used to predict the fatigue life of bolts. The results indicate the prediction of fatigue life of the bolts was in good agreement with the real life of vehicle wheel bolts in this test

Notes: It is well-known that the noise and vibration from the torque change of the engine and the inertia change of its accessories (alternator and water pump) have severe effects on both the quality and the life expectancy of the engine belt system. An automatic belt tensioner is generally used not only to reduce the noise and vibration of such belt system, but also to enhance the life cycle. In the present research, measurement of the user running conditions and the data analyses were performed to try to derive an evaluation method of life cycle of such an automatic belt tensioner system. As a part of results, a running condition for the evaluation was suggested from the study of conditions loaded on an automatic belt tensioner. This running condition was divided into two parts, the Structure part and the Pulley one, and suggested separately for the accelerated life-test of the system. As the other part of the results, an accelerated life-test condition was derived using Palmgen-Miner rule for structure part. And a modified accelerated life-test condition, which uses temperature as an acceleration factor, was suggested for pulley part

Notes: Automatic belt tensioner for stabilization of Engine accessory belt system is madeincrease its life, decrease noise and vibration and increase its commercial value. Therefore, it is important finding test mode to assess life of automatic belt tensioner. However, measurement and analysis test result in practical test condition on real road needs requiring much test time and finance. In this study, there is analyzed and established test mode which is loaded measured equivalent damage in real working condition, compared test condition of pre-established test mode and FTP- 75 mode of fuel efficiency test and verified advantages and disadvantages of each mode. Because FTP-75 Mode is for measuring fuel efficiency related with engine, applying FTP-75 mode is estimated suitability for test of engine accessory. Comparison and assessment of damage is investigated structure and pulley part. Equivalent damage is calculated with Palmgren-Miner Rule and representative stress method, test condition of automatic belt tensioner is investigated. This investigation is regarded as being useful to life evaluation of both automatic belt tensioner and other engine accessory component

Notes: In this study, the fatigue life evaluation of automatic transfer devices under stressconcentrations due to the notch effect is performed. To investigate residual life of a notchedcomponent, load histories were obtained through strain measurement. A fatigue test was performedon a specimen imitating a real component and results were compared with each notch root radius ofthe concentration area. Three-dimensional finite element analysis was also performed to evaluate thelocal stress fields. Miner’s rule was used to predict the fatigue life calculation. As a result, thepredicted life of a notched component was in good agreement with a real component and introduced aspecial method for measuring load using real machine components
