Notes: Abstract Coordination polymers of Hg(II) with dithiooxamide, poly(ethylene thiooxamide), poly(butane thiooxamide), and poly(hexane thiooxamide) have been synthesized. All coordination polymers are solid compounds insoluble in common organic solvents. Coordination polymers have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, and thermogravimetric analysis and structures have been proposed leading to coordination of metal through S alone as well as N and S both. Thermal stability of the polymers has also been discussed.

Notes: Summary The homogeneous free-radical polymerization of acrylamide initiated by a redox pair permanganate-lactic acid has been investigated at 35 ± 0.2 °C for solutions in water-organic solvents mixture and in aqueous solutions of neutral salts. The iodometric procedure was employed for the kinetic analysis. The experimental results show a considerable effect on the rate of polymerization and molecular weight of the polymer too. The authors are grateful to Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, India for financial assistance rendered to one of them (UDNB).

Notes: Summary Coordination polymers were synthesized using N,N'-Bis (carboxymethyl) dithiooxamide (NN' CMDTO) and Zinc(II) salts. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectral studies, TGA and viscosity measurements. In the proposed structures the ligand was supposed to be coordinated to metal through sulphur and oxygen.

Notes: Polyacrylamide was prepared by a suitable redox system in oxygen atmosphere and its cohesive energy density (ced) was determined from swelling measurements. The molecular weight of polymer was also determined by viscosity measurements.

Notes: The grafting of poly(acrylonitrile) onto guar gum in aqueous medium initiated by the potassium presulfate/ascorbic acid redox system has been studied gravimetrically at the temperature of 35 + 0.2°C in the presence of atmospheric oxygen. A plausible mechanism of graft copolymerization has been suggested on the basis of experimental results. The effect of grafting on the water and saline retention capacities has been studied and compared with the values obtained for ungrafted guar gum. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: The polyesterification reaction between dimer acid and 1,4-Butane diol under different experimental conditions has been studied to obtain the optimum conditions for synthesizing poly(1,4-butanediol)dimerate plasticizers. The effect of varying molar ratio and catalyst concentration on acid number, intrinsic viscosity, and molecular weight have been investigated. It has been found that p-toluene sulfonic acid is an effective catalyst for the polyesterification reaction. © 1992 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: The polyesterification of dimer acid with propane-diol under different experimental conditions has been studied to obtain the optimum conditions for synthesizing the poly(propane-diol) dimerate plasticizers. The effect of varying molar ratio, temperature, and catalyst concentration on the course of the reaction, acid number, intrinsic viscosity, and molecular weight of the resultant polyester has been investigated. p-Toluene sulfonic acid (PTSA) was found to be an effective catalyst for the polyesterification reaction. The kinetics of polyesterification in the presence and absence of a catalyst has been found to follow the second-order rate equation in equimolar concentrations of the reactants. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notes: The grafting of acrylamide onto guar gum in aqueous medium initiated by KMnO4/oxalic acid redox system has been studied gravimetrically at the temperature 35 ± 0.2°C. The effect of redox components, acrylamide concentration and quantity of guar gum has been studied in terms of percentage and efficiency of grafting. A plausible mechanism of grafting and a suitable rate expression has been suggested. The rate of grafting was found to increase with increase in temperature and concentrations of redox components and acrylamide, but, at high concentration of guar gum, the rate was found to decrease.
