Notes: Summary Coordination polymers were synthesized using N,N'-Bis (carboxymethyl) dithiooxamide (NN' CMDTO) and Zinc(II) salts. The complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR spectral studies, TGA and viscosity measurements. In the proposed structures the ligand was supposed to be coordinated to metal through sulphur and oxygen.

Notes: Summary The homogeneous free-radical polymerization of acrylamide initiated by a redox pair permanganate-lactic acid has been investigated at 35 ± 0.2 °C for solutions in water-organic solvents mixture and in aqueous solutions of neutral salts. The iodometric procedure was employed for the kinetic analysis. The experimental results show a considerable effect on the rate of polymerization and molecular weight of the polymer too. Notes: Abstract Coordination polymers of Hg(II) with dithiooxamide, poly(ethylene thiooxamide), poly(butane thiooxamide), and poly(hexane thiooxamide) have been synthesized. All coordination polymers are solid compounds insoluble in common organic solvents. Coordination polymers have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectra, and thermogravimetric analysis and structures have been proposed leading to coordination of metal through S alone as well as N and S both. Thermal stability of the polymers has also been discussed.

Notes: The kinetics of aqueous polymerization of acrylamide with KMnO4/glycine redox pair was studied in an atmosphere of nitrogen at 35 ± 0.2°C. The rate of polymerization was found to be first power on monomer, activator, and catalyst concentration. The overall energy of activation was calculated to be 15.66 kcal/deg mol (65.54 kJ/mol) between 30 and 50°C. The effects of various additives (alcohols, neutral salts, complexing agents, addition of catalyst) were studied. The dependence of the polymerization rate on the activator and catalyst concentration was studied in DMF-water mixture also. The molecular weight of polymer was determined at various temperatures of the reaction medium.

Notes: The grafting of acrylamide onto guar gum in aqueous medium initiated by the redox system Cu2+/Na2S2O5 in presence of oxygen has been studied at the temperature 35°C. The effect of the concentration of the components of the grafting system and of the reaction temperature has been determined. A plausible mechanism of the grafting process is suggested.

Notes: The grafting of polyacrylamide on to guar gum in aqueous medium initiated by the potassium persulfate/ascorbic acid redox system has been studied gravimetrically at the temperature 35 ± 0.2°C in the presence of atmospheric oxygen and Ag+ ions. The rate of grafting was found to increase with temperature, concentration of redox components, acrylamide, and guar gum. But at higher concentration of guar gum, the rate of grafting was found to decrease. A mechanism for grafting and suitable rate expression have been suggested.

Notes: The grafting of acrylamide onto guar gum in aqueous medium initiated by KMnO4/oxalic acid redox system has been studied gravimetrically at the temperature 35 ± 0.2°C. The effect of redox components, acrylamide concentration and quantity of guar gum has been studied in terms of percentage and efficiency of grafting. A plausible mechanism of grafting and a suitable rate expression has been suggested. The rate of grafting was found to increase with increase in temperature and concentrations of redox components and acrylamide, but, at high concentration of guar gum, the rate was found to decrease.

Notes: A combined system of potassium permanganate and mandelic acid was found to initiate vinyl polymerization, specifically acrylamide. A study of the reaction kinetics of this system showed that free radicals are formed. The energy of activation was found to be 3.54 kcal/° mol in the temperature range 27-40°C, in nitrogen atmosphere.
