Notes: Summary Typical epitheloid cell formations were found in 175 of 500 cases of various types of Hodgkin's disease. No distinctive behaviour was found in cases with epitheloid structures. Close attention has been devoted to a further series of 23 lymphoepitheloid cell malignant lymphomata marked by focal nuclear atypicality in their epitheloid cell granulomas, which destroyed the basic neoplastic structure of the lymph node in many cases, necessitating further biopsy. In this series not only Hodgkin's disease (7 cases) but also some malignant lymphomas of non Hodgkin's types (3 × immunoblastoma, 3 × immunocytoma and 2 × T-lymphoblastoma) were found. In 6 cases only a tentative diagnosis of lymphoepitheloid cell malignant lymphoma could be made. The epitheloid granulomatous reaction tended to disappear gradually in all cases by repeated check-ups, and was apparently a secondary phenomenon. The cause of the epitheloid cell atypia was not evident although it proved to be an important diagnostic feature identifying an independent form of lymphoepitheloid malignant lymphoma. The subsequent development of this lesion suggested a mildly pleiomorphic highly malignant lymphoma, which might be of B cell origin, but was sometimes demonstrably of the T cell series.

Description / Table of Contents: Summary In hypertension in the pulmonary circulation changes take place not only in the arteries but also in the capillaries, venules, and veins. The sclerotic changes are ordinarily segmental and non-systematic. They follow regressive changes in constantly contracted segments with hypertrophied muscle cells. Generally, these contractions are probably of reflex nature. Inhypertension of pulmonary origin one finds hypertrophy of the inner longitudinal musculature of the arterioles, sclerosis of the venules, and the opening of innumerable arteriovenous anastomoses as well as of communications between the pulmonary and bronchial arteries. Inhypertensive disease a hypertrophy of the circular musculature of the small arteries and a sclerosis at the junction of the large veins is found more often than in the other groups. Indiseases of the mitral valve the phlebosclerosis is especially striking. Typical for thekyphoscoliotic atelectasis is the disparity between the advanced sclerosis of the venules and the slight hypertrophy of the arterioles.

Notes: The homogeneous polyaddition reaction of pyromellitic dianhydride with 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane was investigated. The dependence of the number average molecular weights on time has a maximum; low equilibrium values of M̄n are caused by a disturbed equimolarity of functional groups due to the hydrolysis of dianhydride with water present in the solvent. In the course of establishment of the equilibrium M̄n value, the molecular weight distribution changes to the most probable value.
