Abstract Whilst there is little doubt that the use of antihypertensive drugs is effective at preventing strokes, there is little evidence to support their use in the period immediately following a stroke. In the longer-term, drug therapy probably does reduce stroke recurrence rates in severe hypertensive but there is insufficient information to make any recommendations in stroke survivors with mild hypertension.
