Notes: The free Dirac operator defined on composite one-dimensional structures consisting of finitely many half-lines and intervals is investigated. The influence of the connection points between the constituents is modeled by transition conditions for the wave functions or equivalently by different self-adjoint extensions of the Dirac operator. General relations between the parameters of the extensions and the eigenvalues resp. the scattering coefficients are derived and then applied to the cases of a bundle of half-lines, a point defect, a branching line, and an eye-shaped structure.

Notes: We consider Schrödinger operators H in L2(Rn), n ∈ N, with countably infinitely many local singularities of the potential which are separated from each other by a positive distance. It is proved that due to locality each singularity yields a separate contribution to the deficiency index of H. In the special case where the singularities are pointlike and the potential exhibits certain symmetries near these points we give an explicit construction of self-adjoint boundary conditions.

Notes: Abstract A previously developed formalism to compute relativistic corrections of bound state energies for spin-1/2 particles is applied to relativistic corrections of energy bands of one-dimensional, periodic Hamiltonians. We explicitly describe Floquet theory for periodic Dirac operators on the line. Extensions including impurity potentials and/or v≥2 dimensions are straightforward and sketched at the end.

Notes: Abstract The existence of bound states in a plane quantum waveguide is proved under weak conditions: Within a bounded set a more general shape than a curved parallel strip is admitted and the curvature of the reference curve need not be differentiable. Furthermore, no upper bound for the width of the strip is required.

Notes: Abstract We prove holomorphy of the scattering matrix at fixed energy with respect toc −2 for abstract Dirac operators. Relativistic corrections of orderc −2 to the nonrelativistic limit scattering matrix (associated with an abstract Pauli Hamiltonian) are explicitly determined. As applications of our abstract approach we discuss concrete realizations of the Dirac operator in one and three dimensions and explicitly compute relativistic corrections of orderc −2 of the reflection and transmission coefficients in one dimension and of the scattering matrix in three dimensions. Moreover, we give a comparison between our approach and the firstorder relativistic corrections according to Foldy-Wouthuysen scattering theory and show complete agreement of the two methods.
