    Notes: Abstract Protonated pyridine (PyH+) was not found on ZrO2 (Z) or ZrO2–TiO2 (ZT), but was detected on sulfated oxides (Z‐S, ZT‐S) by IR spectroscopy. In contrast, ZrO2–SiO2 samples containing about 30–80 mol% ZrO2 showed Brønsted acidity both in non‐sulfated (ZS) and sulfated (ZS‐S) forms. The total acidity was determined by NH3‐TPD. Introduction of sulfate ions increased the site‐specific catalytic activity (TOF) in the conversion of cyclopropane or n‐hexane. The effect of sulfate ions was more significant on samples rich in zirconia. Results suggest that Zr is homogeneously distributed in ZS samples rich in silica. Zirconia‐bound dimeric sulfate, generating strong acidity, could not be formed in these preparations due to the absence of fairly large ZrO2 domains.

    Polyneuropathy with endoneurial immune complex deposition as the first manifestation of systemic lupus erythematosus (1998)

    Notes: Abstract A 72-year-old male presented with progressive sensorimotor polyneuropathy. Later weight loss, proteinuria and deteriorating renal function were noted. The electrophysiological examinations revealed extensive, symmetrical demyelinating and axonal polyneuropathy. Frozen sections obtained from sural nerve biopsy sample showed the presence of immune complexes and complements in the walls of the epi- and endoneurial blood vessels, and perineurium suggestive of systemic lupus erythematous (SLE). IgG and Clq deposits were also present along the basement membranes of Schwann cells. The electron microscopy confirmed the presence of immune complex deposition. Diagnosis of SLE was proven by positive serology (anti-nuclear antibodies, anti-Sm, anti-RNP, anti-double-stranded DNA) and renal biopsy showing membranous lupus nephritis with extensive immune complex deposition in the tubular basement membranes. Despite combined immunosuppressive treatment for 10 months, the patient died of complications of generalized immune complex vasculitis. The manifestation of SLE in elderly patients, especially in males, is very rare. Moreover, the polyneuropathy is an unusual initial symptom of SLE. Immune complex deposition in Schwann cell basement membrane probably plays an important role in the pathomechanism of sensorimotor polyneuropathy in SLE.

    Notes: Abstract SOD-1-deficient mice demonstrate no loss of motoneurons but are still vulnerable to axotomy and ischemic insults. To investigate possible reasons for vulnerability of motoneuron populations, we studied changes in ultrastructural calcium distribution during maturation in spinal- and oculomotor neurons in SOD-1–/– mice. Between 3 and 11 months the cytoplasmic component of the intracellular calcium changed at a lower rate in spinal motoneurons and motor axon terminals in the interosseus muscle of SOD-1–/– animals compared to wild-type controls. No such dissimilarities were noted in the oculomotor system, or in mitochondrial calcium contents of either cell type. These data suggest that the lack of SOD-1 may be associated with vulnerability to insult by depletion of non-mitochondrial calcium stores selectively in motoneurons lacking parvalbumin and/or calbindin D28K.

Наблюдалось селективное оброзование транс-2пентена из транс-2-бутена, однако, для цис-изомеров такой селективности не наблюдалось.
    Notes: Abstract Cross metathesis of cis- and trans-2-butene with 1-butene was studied over Re2O7/Al2O3 catalyst in a recirculation system at 313 K. Formation of ethylene and hexenes was inhibited by 2-butenes; formation of propene and pentene proceeded without induction from trans- and with induction from cis-2-butene and 1-butene. Selective formation of trans-2-pentene was observed from trans-2-butene, but no such selectivity was characteristic for cis-isomers.

Вы-ход этилтолуолов увеличивэется, выход бензола и ксилола уменьшается со временем на струе. Это изменение в выхо-дах было усилено увеличением содержания этилена на пи-тании и предварительной обработкой катализатора этиле-ном. Селективность этилирования толуола увеличивается с увеличением объемной скорости.
    Notes: Abstract Alkylation of toluene with ethylene on unmodified large-crystal HZSM-5 has been studied in a flow system at 673 K, atmospheric pressure. The yield of ethyltoluenes increased and that of benzene and xylenes decreased with time on stream. This change in yields was accelerated by increasing the ethylene content of feed and by pretreating the catalyst with ethylene. Selectivity for toluene ethylation increase with increasing space velocity.

    Notes: Abstract The effect of adamantane (Ad) on the activity and selectivity of acidic zeolites Y, β and mordenite (M) in the isomerization and cracking ofn-heptane (C7) in He at 443 K was studied.Ad was found to promote the isomerization of C7. TheAd uptake of the zeolites, and the IR spectra obtained from the zeolite-boundAd were determined. It was found thatAd did not remain completely unconverted under the conditions of the C7 reaction. The activity of the catalysts in the conversion ofAd increased in the sequence of H-Y〈H-β〈H-M. Existing data suggest that a fraction of theAd, responsible for the cocatalytic effect, can participate in hydride transfer processes and remain unconverted, while another fraction, depending on catalyst acidity, is converted to dimer and oligomers.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Водород, удаляемый с катализатора реакции диспропорционирования — MoO3/Al2O3, восстановленного водородом при 550°C, а также водород, образующийся из воды на восстановленном катализаторе, были определены элюированием азотом. Вода, адсорбированная на катализаторе, в конце восстановления частично реокисляет окись молибдена входе элюирования. В результате, значнтельная часть водорода, удаляемая элюированием, происходит не от обратимо адсорбированного водорода, а от адсорбированной воды.
    Notes: Abstract Hydrogen removable from a molybdena-alumina disproportionation catalyst reduced by hydrogen at 550°C, and the hydrogen formed from water on the reduced catalyst were determined by elution with nitrogen. Water adsorbed on the catalyst at the end of reduction partly reoxidizes molybdenum oxide during elution. Consequently, a considerable part of the hydrogen removable by elution does not arise from reversibly adsorbed hydrogen but from adsorbed water.

    Description / Table of Contents: Abstract Превращения цис- и транс-2-бутенов были исследованы при 40°C на катализаторе MoO3/Al2O3, восстановленном водородом и подвергнутом различной предварительной обработке. Изомеризация была ускорена водородом, преадсорбированном либо при низких, либо при высоких темперптурах. Сообмену 2-бутенов с промежуточным 1-бутеном благоприятствует лишь водород, преадсорбированный при низких температурах; водород, преадсорбировпнный при высоких температурах подавляет сообмен.
    Notes: Abstract Transformation of cis- and trans-2-butene at 40°C was investigated over a MoO3/A2O3 catalyst reduced with hydrogen and subjected to different pretreatments. Isomerization is accelerated by hydrogen preadsorbed either at low or high temperatures. The cometathesis of 2-butenes with the 1-butene intermediate, however, is enhanced only by hydrogen preadsorbed at low and suppressed by hydrogen adsorbed at high temperatures.
