    Notes: CD28 interaction with B7 molecules, expressed on the membranes of antigen-presenting cells, costimulates cytokine production, T-cell proliferation and generation of cytotoxic lymphocytes. The expression of CD28 markers on CD4+ and CD8+ lymphocytes was studied in a group of subjects at various stages of HIV infection. A reduction in the percentage of CD28-bearing CD4+ and CD8+ cell subsets was observed during the asymptomatic stage of the disease. This reduction was more pronounced in AIDS than in non-AIDS patients. At the same time, an increase in the absolute CD8+CD28− cell number (greater in stage A than in stage B and C subjects) was observed in HIV-infected patients. The finding of an altered pattern of CD28 expression on T cells might per se explain certain early defects in the cytokine pattern and in the immune response peculiar to HIV-infected patients.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Untersuchung bezieht sich auf stationäre Mischkonvektion in der Grenzschicht einer mikropolaren Flüssigkeit entlang eines senkrechten schlanken Zylinders. Die bestimmenden Gleichungen wurden numerisch gelöst. In einem gewissen Bereich des Krümmungsverhältnisses und der Stoffparameter des mikropolaren Fluids werden Ergebnisse für den Widerstandsbeiwert, die Nusselt-Zahl sowie Besonderheiten des Strömungs- und Temperaturfeldes mitgeteilt. Wie sich zeigte, weisen mikropolare Fluide gegenüber Newtonschen Fluiden sowohl geringeren Widerstand als auch niedrigere Wärmeübertragungsintensität auf.
    Notes: Abstract An analysis is presented for the steady state mixed convective boundary layer flow of a micropolar fluid along vertical slender cylinders. The governing equations have been solved numerically. Results for the friction factor, Nusselt number as well as the details of flow and temperature fields are displayed for a range of values of the transverse curvature and material parameters for the micropolar fluid. It is observed that micropolar fluids display drag reduction as well as heat transfer rate reduction when compared to Newtonian fluids.

Die Abweichungen der Geschwindigkeits- und Temperaturfelder sowie der Reibungsbeiwerte und der Wärmeübergangskoeffizienten von den Ergebnissen für konstante Stoffwerte lassen sich mit Hilfe von Ähnlichkeitslösungen bestimmen.
    Notes: Abstract The influences of variable viscosity and buoyancy force on laminar boundary layer flow and heat transfer due to a continuous flat plate are examined. The deviation of the velocity and temperature fields as well as of the skin friction and heat transfer results from their constant values are determined by means of similarity solutions.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Es wird eine Grenzschichtuntersuchung vorgestellt, welche den Einfluß eines gerichteten Oberflächen-Stoffaustauschs sowie eines auftriebsinduzierten Druckgradienten auf den Wärmeübergang an einer horizontalen, in einer mikropolaren Flüssigkeit befindlichen Platte klären soll. Für verschiedene Größen des Stoffaustauschs, des Auftriebs und der Stoffparameter lassen sich numerische Lösungen der transformierten Grenzschichtgleichungen gewinnen. Der Einfluß des gerichteten Stoffaustauschs und der Auftriebskräfte auf den Widerstandsbeiwert und den übertragenen Wärmestrom wird diskutiert.
    Notes: Abstract A boundary layer analysis is presented to study the effects of vectored surface mass transfer and induced buoyancy streamwise pressure gradients on heat transfer to a horizontal plate placed in a micropolar fluid. Numerical solutions of the transformed boundary layer equations are obtained for different values of the mass transfer, buoyancy and material parameters. A discussion is provided for the effects of the vectored surface mass transfer and the buoyancy force on the friction factor and heat transfer rate.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung  Die Untersuchung bezieht sich auf die Strömung eines zähen Fluids durch einen Kanal veränderlichen Querschnittes, wie er typischerweise bei einem Wankelmotor zu finden ist. Im mathematischen Modell wird von einer Strömung entlang einer bewegten Begrenzung ausgegangen. Die unter Variation der Fluidstoffwerte ermittelten dimensionslosen Temperatur- und Geschwindigkeitsfelder, Reibungsbeiwerte und Nusselt-Zahlen beziehen sich auf den Verbrennungsraum eines Wankelmotors. Recherchen haben ergeben, daß eine solche Untersuchung bisher noch nicht durchgeführt worden ist.
    Notes: Abstract  This paper is concerned with an analysis of viscous flow through a varying cross sectional area, typical of application in a Wankel Engine. The analysis models flow past a variable moving boundary. Dimensionless temperature, velocities, friction factor and Nusselt numbers are obtained and evaluated for the inside of a Wankel engine channel for different fluid properties. Research has indicated such application has not been previously performed.

    Notes: Abstract An analysis is presented to investigate the flow and heat transfer characteristics of a vertical stretching surface with suction and blowing, and variable magnetic effects. The magnetic field of variable intensity is applied perpendicular to the surface. The range of the magnetic parameter M investigated is 0.1 to 1.0. The flow is considered steady, incompressible, and three-dimensional. The governing momentum and energy equations are solved numerically. Numerical results are presented for velocity distribution, temperature distribution, surface shear stress, and wall heat transfer rate. Discussion is provided for the effect of the magnetic field strength on the velocity and temperature fields.

    Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Diese Arbeit bezieht sich auf die stationäre Auftriebsströmung über einer langen, horizontalen Linienwärmequelle, die in das untere Ende einer senkrechten, adiabaten Fläche eingebettet ist, wobei für das umgebende Fluid nicht-Newtonsches Verhalten unterstellt wird. Unter Voraussetzung mäßig hoher Werte für die verallgemeinerten Grashof-Zahlen kommt die Methode der angepaßten asymptotischen Entwicklung zur Anwendung. Insbesondere wird belegt, daß Korrekturen zweiter Ordnung zur Berücksichtigung von Nichtgrenzschichteffekten erforderlich sind. Die mitgeteilten Ergebnisse umfassen eine Gruppe von numerischen Lösungen im Bereich 0,4 bis 2,0 für den Exponentenn des Potenzansatzes, mit dem das nicht-Newtonsche Fluidverhalten erfaßt wird und jeweils für die Prandtl-ZahlenPr=10 und 100.
    Notes: Abstract This paper considers the steady-state free convection flow arising from an infinitely long horizontal line source of heat embedded in the base of a vertical adiabatic surface when the ambient fluid is a non-Newtonian fluid for moderately large values of the generalized Grashof numbers by the method of matched asymptotic expansions. In particular, the second-order corrections to account for the non-boundary layer effects have been predicted. A family of numerical solutions for the power-law fluid behavior indexn ranging from 0.4 to 2.0 and for the Prandtl numberPr=10 and 100 are reported.

    Notes: Abstract A boundary layer analysis is presented for the mixed convection from a vertical plate embedded in a porous medium. The effects of thermal dispersion and stratification on the flow and temperature fields are investigated. The conservation equations that govern the problem are reduced to a system of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. The resulting equations were solved on the basis of the local similarity approach.

Es werden numerische Ergebnisse für die dimensionslosen Wärmeübergangskoeffizienten, die örtlichen und gemittelten Wärmeflüsse und das Temperaturfeld im Stift mitgeteilt, welche durch Simultanlösung der Grenzschichtgleichungen für das Fluid und der Energiegleichung für den Stift gewonnen werden.
    Notes: Abstract An analysis is presented for the heat transfer characteristics of a steady, laminar, mixed convective flow of power-law type non-Newtonian fluid over a circular pin by the conjugate convection-conduction theory including radiative effects under optically thick limit approximation. Numerical results are presented for the dimensionless heat transfer coefficients, local and overall heat fluxes and temperature distribution of the pin by a simultaneous solution of the convective boundary layer equations of the fluid and the energy equation of the pin.

The transformed conservation laws are solved numerically for the cases of variable wall temperature and variable wall heat flux boundary conditions. Results are presented for the details of the velocity and temperature fields as well as Nusselt number.
