Notes: Abstract We suggest an ansatz for the Bethe Salpeter wave function which is strictly covariant, obeys the spectrum conditions, and has the correct non relativistic limit. As a first simple application we present a wave function for the pion. It contains two parameters, one of them being the quark mass. The decay constant and the form factor derived from this are in excellent agreement with the data.

Notes: Abstract We employ the Wigner-Weisskopf method for a simultaneous treatment of decays, mass splittings and mixings of baryon resonances. Complex mixing matrices naturally arise in this context. Most of the amplitudes at resonance become also complex now and we make predictions for their phases. In spite of the doubling of the number of parameters in the mixing matrices the well0known discrepancies between decay and spectrum analyses still persist.

Notes: Abstract After demonstrating the equivalence of an approach of the author with an earlier one of Eichten and Feinberg as far as the general form of the spin-dependent quark-antiquark potential in order 1/m 2 is concerned we point out an inconsistency in the further assumptions which were made in both papers. We show that there is a relation between the various potentials which was violated by these assumptions. The correct treatment yields an, additional spin-orbit term which reverses the sign of the one obtained before and brings it into agreement with that of an effective scalar exchange.

Notes: Abstract After showing that the usual way of performing the non-relativistic limit in the BS equation leads to a divergent result in the case of a confining kernel we perform the limit correctly and find that the well-known linear potential will be necessarily accompanied by a negative constant. Under a rather weak naturalness assumption the constant is uniquely determined from the slope of the linear potential. The resulting relation is in agreement with the phenomenology of meson spectroscopy.

Notes: Abstract Within the standard three-quark model of excited baryon resonances we discuss a model which considers one gluon exchange as well as the effects of the confining potential. The latter is assumed universal and scalar but may be non-local (momentum dependent). This leads to an additional type of spin-orbit interactions which can compensate contributions of gluon exchange and explain the general smallness of spin orbit terms. For strange resonances the wave function distortion due to the different quark masses turns out to be very important. The low position of Λ (1405) is a natural consequence in our model.

Notes: Abstract The gauge-invariant approach to the potential via the Wilson loop is generalized, replacing the static sources by the appropriate Dirac currents. The resulting expression is expanded with respect to l/m 2 and then brought into a suitable form. For the evaluation the only input we employ is the area law for large distances. This allows us to understand how the electric flux tube picture emerges in the case of moving quarks, and why magnetic terms do not contribute to spin-dependent corrections. The only surviving spin dependence is a spin-orbit term like that from a scalar potential, but with the opposite sign.

Notes: Abstract After a critical discussion of some definitions of macrocausality we propose a definition for causal propagation of observables, in particular of energy. This definition, which was already given in a preceding paper by Gerlach, Petzold, Rosenthal, and the author, is applied to various examples of local and nonlocal theories. Finally, we deal with the question of signals, a question, which needs some further consideration. The propagation of signals is discussed for local and nonlocal theories, including tachyon fields.

Notes: Abstract We study the nonlinear equations for matrix elements of the gluon fields between heavy quark-antiquark states in an SU(2) Yang-Mills theory, obtained by saturating the operator products with $$q\bar q$$ -intermediate states only. Equations of this kind have been proposed by Giles and McLerran and Adler before. We present exact solutions to these equations consistent with the charge algebra. These solutions lead to total screening, i.e. the color charge of the gluons exactly cancels that of the quarks. We also calculate the energy of the system and find that the result is in agreement with the screening effect.
