Synthesis and Structure of 7-tert-Butyl-2-methylbenzoxazolesAnodic oxidation of 15 tert-butylphenols 1a-o in absolute acetonitrile or acetonitrile/perchloric acid leads to the corresponding 7-tert-butyl-2-methylbenzoxazoles 3a-o. The proof of the structure was achieved by independent synthesis of 3k, and by 13C NMR spectroscopy as well as by X-ray analysis of 7-tert-butyl-2-methyl-5-benzoxazolecarbaldehyde (3i). The influence of the supporting electrolyte on the formation of the oxidation products in discussed.
    Notes: Die anodische Oxidation von 15 tert-butyl-substituierten Phenolen 1a-o in wasserfreiem Acetonitril oder in Acetonitril/Perchlorsäure führt zu den entsprechenden 7-tert-Butyl-2-methylbenzoxazolen 3a-o. Der Strukturbeweis wurde durch unabhängige Synthese von 3k und 13C-NMR-Spektroskopie sowie durch Röntgenstrukturanalyse von 7-tert-Butyl-2-methyl-5-benzoxazolcarbaldehyd (3i) geführt. Der Einfluß des Elektrolytsystems auf die Produktbildung wird diskutiert.

    Description / Table of Contents: Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Absolute Configuration of the Methyl 6β-Phenylsulfonylacetate Derivative of TestosteroneAlkylation of the dimeric π-allyl-PdCl complex 2 of testosterone (1) with the anion from methyl phenylsulfonylacetate leads to the 6β-substituted derivative 3. The compound 3 crystallizes in the space group P212121 with a = 6.229(1), b = 18.342(1), c = 25.705(3) Å, and Z = 4. The structure was solved from diffractometer data with 3732 independent reflexions by direct methods and refined to R = 0.053. The absolute configuration was determined by the Bijvoet ratios and the Hamilton test (S-configuration at C20). The substitution at the position 6β leads to a more pronounced 1α-sofa conformation of the ring A in comparison with testosterone and to a distorted chair conformation in the ring B. The conformation of ring D is quantitatively described with Δ = 21.5° and Φm = 47.5°. The results are discussed and compared with data of other compounds given in the literature.
    Notes: Durch Alkylierung des dimeren π-Allyl-PdCl-Komplexes 2 von Testosteron (1) mit dem Anion des Phenylsulfonylessigsäure-methylesters wird das in 6β-Stellung substituierte Testosteronderivat 3 erhalten. 3 kristallisiert in der Raumgruppe P212121 mit a = 6.229(1), b = 18.342(1), c = 25.705(3) Å und Z = 4. Die Lösung der Struktur gelang mit direkten Methoden; R = 0.053 mit 3732 symmetrieunabhängigen Reflexen. Die absolute Konfiguration wurde aus den Bijvoet-Verhältnissen und dem Hamilton-Test abgeleitet (S-Konfiguration an C20). Die Substitution in 6β-Stellung führt im Vergleich zu Testosteron zu einer stärker ausgeprägten 1α-Sofa-Konformation im A-Ring und zu einer verdrillten Sessel-Konformation des B-Ringes. Die Konformation des D-Ringes wurde quantitativ bestimmt (Δ = 21.5°, Φm = 47.5°). Die erhaltenen Moleküldaten wurden mit Literaturwerten verglichen.

    Description / Table of Contents: The Crystal and Molecular Structure of the Dimeric π-Allyl-Palladium Chloride Complex of TestosteroneThe dimeric π-allyl-PdCl complex 2 of testosterone (1) crystallizes in the space group P21 with Z = 2, two water, and four 1,2-dichloroethane solvent molecules per unit cell. The crystal structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray analysis (R = 0.036 for 4533 reflections). Anomalous dispersion effects of the palladium atoms allowed the determination of the absolute configuration. The palladium atoms are coordinated on the α-face of the steroid molecules. The Pd2Cl2 bridges are folded by 135° between both PdCl coordination planes. The steroid skeletons in the complex are flatter than testosterone (1) itself and show significant conformational differences. 2 crystallizes in helices along the two-fold axis; the helices themselves are connected by hydrogen bonds and form sheets parallel with the (100) plane.
    Notes: Der dimere π-(4-6η)-PdCl-Komplex 2 von Testosteron (1) kristallisiert in der Raumgruppe P21 mit Z = 2, zwei Wasser- und vier 1,2-Dichlorethanlösungsmittelmolekülen pro Elementarzelle. Die Kristallstruktur wurde durch Einkristallröntgenstrukturanalyse (R = 0.036 mit 4533 Reflexen) bestimmt. Anomale Dispersionseffekte der Palladiumatome erlaubten die Bestimmung der absoluten Konfiguration. Die Palladiumatome stehen α-seitig. Die Pd2Cl2-Brücken bilden einen Faltungswinkel von 135° zwischen beiden PdCl-Koordinationsebenen. Die Steroidgerüste im Komplex sind flacher als im Testosteron (1) und zeigen signifikante Konformationsunterschiede. 2 kristallisiert in Helices entlang der Schraubenachse, wobei die Helices durch Wasserstoff-brücken verknüpft sind und Schichten parallel zu der (100)-Ebene bilden.
