Notes: Summary The aim of this study was to demonstrate the advantage and validity of133Xe-washout externally monitored by the scintillation camera. Until now there were no reports on quantitative blood flow studies in hyperacute rejection of transplanted kidneys using a scintillation camera. Within 35 minutes after e-vivo hemoperfusion of rabbit kidneys by cats we found a simultaneous progressive decrease of renal blood flow, renal cortical blood flow as well as of the intrarenal distribution of renal cortical blood flow in all cases. The hyperacute rejection of xenografts could be verified in every case histologically. Using the scintillation camera we were able to detect regional perfusion defects caused by artifical air embolism as well as by preexisting cortical infarction.

Notes: Abstract In 153 children suffering from various renal or urological diseases a total of 179 individual and regional renal clearance studies were performed using 123-I-hippuran and a scintillation camera. The clinical diagnoses and questions before and the therapeutic consequences after clearance determinations are analyzed. The dynamic information of sequential scintigraphy combined with renal clearance determination allow a quantitative estimation of the individual and regional kidney function. The method is considerably helpful in cases of unilateral small kidneys, obstructive uropathies, duplication of the urinary tract, and segmental renal disease.

Notes: Summary Comparative studies with radioisotope renography and renal szintigraphy were performed using o131J-Hippurate,113mIn-Fe-EDTA and197Hg-Chlor-merodrin in 19 patients consecutive to renal transplantation. Secretory maximum (tmax), the ratio of radioactivity-accumulation (1.5/0.5 min p.i.) and -excretion (20.0/0.5 min p.i.) were found in significant correlation with the level of serum- creatinine (p 〈 0.01). In shock-kidneys following renal transplantation comparative renography with o131J-Hippurate and113mIn-EDTA offers the poβibility to evaluate the onset of renal glomerular and tubular function. Different szintigraphy pattern in cases of rejection are demonstrated.
