Notes: Abstract Properties of an infinite nuclear matter of interacting alpha-particle have been studied. The expression obtained for the excitation spectrum exhibits the existence of the energy gap in the nuclear matter. The energy gap changes withm * α /m α, the ratio between effective and true mass of an alpha-particle, and it seems to disappear for higher values ofm * α /m α.

Notes: Abstract The properties of a system of bosons interacting through a two body potential composed of a hard repulsive core followed by an attractive square well and having density of the order of that of liquid4He at theλ-point have been studied. The system is found to have a peculiar behaviour around 1 K and we assert that it may have undergone another phase transition around 1 K. Calculations on the effective mass show that them */m values lie between 2 and 9 so that the interacting bosons may have a transition temperature below 1 K. We have also plottedE k vs.k graph for temperatures below 1 K.

Notes: Abstract The symmetry energy coefficienta T has been calculated in first order perturbation theory by two different methods. In one set of calculations we have used the method of Brueckner and Dabrowski, while in the other set we have made straightforward calculations of the energy of a neutron excess system in terms of the neutron excess parameterα. The isospin-spin dependent part of the single-particle potentialU 1 has also been estimated using the explicit expression due to Brueckner and Dabrowski. Our results fora T andU 1 compare favourably with those obtained by others, one result fora T being especially close to the empirical value. Using the formalism developed by us in this manuscript we have calculated compressibility and the average rearrangement energyU R in terms ofα. The neutron excess systems saturate at the same density as nuclear matter upto α=0.5, and at this value ofα the compressibility is roughly 10 percent more than the nuclear matter value. The results for UR are in reasonable agreement with those obtained by others.

Notes: Abstract The variation of the Landau parameters with density and hard-core diameter is calculated for liquid helium using interparticle potentials composed of a hard core followed by a combination of a repulsive and an attractive Gaussian potential, and a hard core followed by a Lennard-Jones potential. Calculations are done only for high-density boson systems. The calculations of specific heat and entropy show good agreement with the experimental results in the very low-temperature region (T〈1.0 K) and for the Gaussian potential only.

Notes: Abstract The properties of liquid He4 whose particles are interacting among themselves through an equivalent two-body Gaussian potential are studied by using the Bogolubov method. It is shown that the value of the hard-core radius σ≦2·2 A°; the most probable values form */m lie between 1·292 and 9 and that forΔ/k between 8 and 16 °K. The results are compared with the experimental and theoretical values known so far. The energy gapΔ and the effective massm * increase as the value ofk increases, keeping the density ϱ fixed. The resultant two-body interaction between the helium atoms is repulsive in the temperature range T→0.

Notes: Abstract Ground state energies of doubly even nuclei which are assumed to be composed of rigid and structureless alpha-particles are calculated. The alpha-particles are assumed to be interacting through a potential composed of a hard core followed by a square well potential in one set of calculations and a Gaussian potential in another set of calculations. Our calculations support the existence of the hard core in the alpha-alpha potential, and suggest the existence of the alphaclustering in doubly even light nuclei. From the graph betweenE 0/N and ϱα we find thatE 0/N is minimum at ϱα=2·57×1037 particles cm−3. This means that in the surface region an assembly of alpha-particles with ϱα= = 2·57×1037 particles cm−3 is the most stable one.

Notes: Abstract Infinite nuclear matter is assumed to be composed of an equal even number of protons and neutrons. The surface region of nuclear matter is replaced by an assembly of alpha-particles interacting through a potential composed of a strong short-range repulsion and a weak long-range attraction of the Gaussian form. The energy gap in nuclear matter and the effective mass of alpha particles have been calculated. The result shows that the energy gapΔ is more than 2 MeV but ≦5 MeV. The ratio of the effective mass m* to the free particle mass m of alpha-particles is always greater than unity and its maximum value is a little over 5. For an assembly of alpha-particles to be stable, it must be a dilute weakly interacting assembly. The net interaction must be repulsive and the nuclear density should be less than the saturation limit. The results have been compared with previous calculations.
