Notes: Abstract The polarization averaged over many quantal channels is analyzed. The analytical expressions for probability distribution function and average polarization are derived in cases of pure statistical reactions as well as the planar ones.

Notes: Abstract It is shown that the fluctuation experiment with polarized beam for the nuclear reactions of 1/2+0 → 0+1/2 type in the region of strongly overlapping resonance levels makes possible the complete determination of the direct interaction amplitude, i.e. modules of both components and the phase angle. The method is used to analyze the elastic scattering of polarized protons on28Si.

Notes: Abstract The joint analysis of differential analyzing power (AP) and differential cross section in the nuclear reactions of +J 1→J 2 +J 3 type in the region of strongly overlapping resonances are presented. Consideration is valid in the absence of the channel-channel compound nuclear correlations. The fluctuations of AP and cross section are proved to be statistically correlated, the greater the direct contribution to the reaction cross section the stronger this correlation. For the purely statistical reactions the correlation is absent. It is shown that the joint investigation of the AP and cross section fluctuations gives possibility to extract the direct reaction AP and the separate the direct and compound nucleus contributions into the reaction cross section. In particular it can be done by means of the statistical correlation (SC) analysis. Furthermore, the SC analysis may serve as a test for revealing the intermediate structure involved in the reaction. Finally, the joint study of differential AP and differential cross section may be used to determine the spins of nuclear levels and polarization of incident beam. The results are employed to separate the compound and direct contributions in the inelastic scattering of polarized protons on28Si. Comparison with experiment quantitatively supports the existence of the SC between the fluctuations of AP and cross section. Possible extension of the SC analysis to the case of the presence of channel-channel compound nuclear correlations are discussed.

Notes: Abstract We discuss here the effect of dissipation of relative angular momentum on fluctuations of excitation functions in dissipative heavy-ion collisions. Dissipation and fluctuation of relative angular momentum modify and smooth the time-angle localization of the rotating dinuclear system. The secondary maxima in the energy correlation function of the cross-section shift to smaller values of the energy difference, the shift depending on the relaxation time and the diffusion coefficient for angular-momentum dissipation. The results are illustrated for the collision28Si(E lab=130 MeV)+48Ti.

Notes: Abstract The analysis of classical description of the statistical angular distributions is given and the criterion of its applicability is obtained by the comparison with the exact quantal calculations. It is shown that the approach considered can be applied to a wide range of experiments dealing with the compound heavy ion reactions.

Notes: Abstract The spin correlation function of two neutrons evaporated consecutively from a compound nucleus is calculated in the framework of a statistical model. The correlation function varies only weakly with the neutron emission angle, typically not more than 10%. This allows to use a simple formula to calculate the neutron spin correlation in good approximation.

Notes: Abstract We modify the standard statistical model for precompound reactions (exciton model) by taking into account the correlations between fluctuatingS-matrix elements with differentJ (total spin) values. This is done in the framework of the statistical approach to nuclear reactions. While angle-integrated cross-sections are not affected by our modification, differential cross-sections become asymmetric about 90° c.m. This asymmetry weakens with time and with increasing complexity of the decaying nuclear system, but need not disappear even for the compound (thermalized) system. We present a comparison with data showing such an asymmetry.

Notes: Abstract We extend the angular momentum correlation description of peripheral heavy-ion collisions to study the time evolution picture of their interaction process in terms of the time power spectrum. This is done for both strongly asymmetric mass and (quasi)symmetric mass colliding nuclei. It is found that the pole spin correlation function implies a physically meaningful description of the collision, while the Gaussian, Lorentzian and exponential correlation functions yield an unphysical picture involving simultaneous rotation of the dinucleus in two opposite directions from the near-side and in two opposite directions from the far-side. The difference between the time evolution laws yields the difference between the angular distributions. As an illustration we analyse angular distributions calculated with different spin correlation functions. The pole spin correlation gives a good fit for the experimental angular distributions in the28Si +64Ni (E lab=123 MeV) dissipative collision, while the corresponding predictions using Gaussian, Lorentzian and exponential spin correlations are in disagreement with the data.
