Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
A number of red 4-arylazo-3-maleimido-N,N-dimethylanilines was prepared, and their composition, melting points and solubilities were determined. The new coloured monomers do not homopolymerize, but they copolymerize with styrene, methyl methacrylate, acrylonitrile, and isobutylene. Both the monomer-to-polymer conversion and the limiting viscosity number of the resulting copolymers are markedly affected by the content of coloured monomers in the starting polymerization mixture. The thermal stability of the copolymers of dye with styrene is distinctly higher than that of pure polystyrene. The coloured polymers were also obtained by coupling the homopolymer or copolymer of N-(3-dimethylaminophenyl) maleimide with the diazonium salt of aryl amines.
