Notes: Abstract There is described an apparatus for the statement of superconductivity and ferromagnetism of a single evaporated film in the temperature range from 1.8° to 300° K. The observation of the magnetic moment of the film in a homogeneous alternating magnetic field is made possible by means of a special device of two sense coils. Tests with Pb and Sn foils result in the known transition temperatures of bulk material. A Sn film in a highly disordered state is produced by quenching condensation. The magnetic transition of such a film is found to be 0.8° K higher than the transition temperature of the annealed film. The result agrees with the resistance measurements by W.Buckel and R.Hilsch. The magnetic measurement proves the increased transition temperature for the whole material of the film.

Notes: Abstract An apparatus is described, which enables us to measure the thicknesses of films immediately after condensation at low temperatures and in different stages of annealing by means of a multiple beam interferometry technique (Tolansky). The film thicknesses are also measured by the temperature dependence of the electrical resistance. Measurements of Pb- and Cu-films are given as an example, and the sources of errors are discussed. In the case of Pb-films both the methods give the same thicknesses at any condensation temperature. This leads to the conclusion that Pb-films have a density of the compact material. At low condensation temperatures the disorder in the films turns out to be thickness dependent, and the distribution of defects seems to be inhomogeneous. Cu-films condense at low temperatures with high porosity. This may be the cause of the often observed getter effect of freshly condensed Cu-films. The filling factor of Cu-films is studied at different condensation temperatures. The temperature dependence of the resistivity of thin metallic films is discussed in the appendix of this paper.

Notes: Abstract Superconducting disordered and amorphous films of Bi, Ga, Al are studied by the tunneling technique. The values of the reduced energy gap 2δ/kT c (4.56 in amorphous Bi, 4.52 in amorphous Ga, 4.15 in amorphous Sn, and 3.72 in amorphous Al) indicate a very strong coupling in some amorphous superconductors. An increase of the tunneling resistance by crystallization of the amorphous Ga-films is interpreted as a decrease in the concentration of free electrons. The influence of the high film resistance on the measured slope of the tunneling curves is observed as long as both films or one of them are normal.
