Notes: Abstract Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) technology was applied to study the glucose metabolism inTribolium confusum (Coleoptera).13C signals of D-(1-13C)glucose eaten by beetles were clearly detected in such metabolites of the glucose metabolism as glycogen, trehalose, triacylglycerol, alanine and proline by13C-NMR. After glucose feeding the31P-NMR spectra ofT. confusum showed the signal intensity increases in arginine-phosphate, sugar-phosphate and uridine diphosphoglucose. The results demonstrated the potential of NMR analysis for the study of glucose metabolism inT. confusum.

Notes: Abstract Roles of the blocking layer that we named the layer which separates Cu−O2 layers more than 6Å have been studied by comparing two kinds of highT c copperoxide superconductors such as Bi(2212) and La(2126) compound. These following results have been obtained. The hole concentration decreases when Sr is substituted by La and increases when Bi is substituted by Pb in Bi(2212), and it can be optimized by these substitution. In La(2126)T c becomes up to 43K and the hole concentration (p;[Cu−O]+p) increases to 0.09 by the substitution of Ca for La and heat treatment under high oxygen partial pressure. The distance between Cu−O2 layers in both Bi(2212) and La(2126) are not changed by these substitution and heat treatment. We have found that the blocking layer has not direct roles for the maximumT c value of the material though by supplying carriers to Cu−O2 layers, it affects the actualT c value.

Notes: Summary Bloodstained threads (1 cm in length) were tested to identify human origin by a direct ELISA-ABC method using biotinylated antibody against human HbA0. By this method human bloodstains were clearly distinguishable from bloodstains of other species including Japanese monkey. The minimum detection lirait of bloodstains prepared from undiluted human whole blood was 1 : 5, 120 (28 ng Hb) and that of bloodstains from diluted human whole blood was 1 : 640 ≈ 1 : 1, 280. Human Hb was more easily detectable in bloodstains prepared from diluted human blood after extraction with 5% ammonia than after extraction with phosphate-buffered saline.

Notes: Abstract Sufficient information on the mechanisms of radiocesium translation from substrate to mushroom and long-term radiocesium accumulation is still not available, though high concentrations of radiocesium were reported in the fruiting bodies of various species of mushrooms especially after the Chernobyl accident. We studied the concentration and existing state of Cs in the cultured mycelium of the edible mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus (Fr.) Kummer Y-1) using NMR. The133Cs NMR resulting spectra exhibited two resonance signals arising from the mycelium whereas one resonance signal from the external medium and CsCl standard solution. The chemical form of the signal in the downfield found in the only mycelium might be concerned with Cs accumulation in the mycelium.
