Notes: Abstract In the present study the solid and liquid phase behaviour of mandelic acid cyclodextrin systems were studied. The samples were prepared using dry grinding/kneading technique in the absence of any solvent. Thermoanalytical methods (TG, DSC, EGD) were used to characterise the solid compounds. In liquid phase the stoichiometry and the stability constants of the complexes formed were determined using UV spectrophotometry. Partial complex formation was found in case of all cyclodextrins used. The amount of uncomplexed mandelic acid varied between 10–20% of the total guest content.

Notes: Abstract Several new complexes of the types [Cu(DioxH)2] and [CuX2·DioxH2] (DioxH2: aliphatic or alicyclic α-dioxime) were obtained and characterized by means of near and far Fourier transformation IR spectroscopy. The thermal decompositions of seven complexes of these types were studied by using DSC measurement data. For several decomposition stages, apparent kinetic parameters were derived by means of the nomogram method.

Notes: Abstract The hydrolysis-polycondensation of organically modified Si-alkoxides leads to the obtaining of inorganic-organic hybrid materials in which the organic moieties remain as permanent groups bonded to the inorganic network. The molecular species previously determinated by GC-MS during the gelation process have been significantly different according to the type of the alkoxide used. In the present work, thermal stability of SiO2-based inorganic-organic hybrid materials starting with TEOS (tetraethoxysilan), MTEOS (triethoxymethylsilan), VTEOS (triethoxyvinylsilan) and MTMOS (trimethoxymethylsilan) was studied. The molecular structure of the gels obtained determines differences in their thermal behaviour. Gels obtained starting with MTEOS show the highest thermal stability, while gels obtained using VTEOS the lowest, among the substituted alkoxides. A particular behaviour presents the gel obtained with MTMOS that decomposes in four steps. This could be explained by the presence in the gel of some prevalent types of molecular species with different thermal stability.

Notes: Abstract The optical resolution of α-phenylethylamine (1) by 2R,3R-tartaric acid (2) was studied in different solvents, the precipitated salts were subjected to thermoanalytical measurements and X-ray powder diffraction. The most efficient resolution can be accomplished by using methanol, the precipitate, an unsolvated salt containing the S-(-)-1⋅2R,3R-(+)-2 salt in abundance, is not a simple mixture of the diastereoisomeric salt pair, but a new modification. In water, ethanol and acetonitrile a reversed, but less effective resolution can be accomplished by precipitation of a hydrate which contains the R-(+)-1 in abundance. The precipitates from water and ethanol also proved to be new modifications. Only the precipitate from acetonitrile is the mixture of the diastereoisomeric salt pair, which can be expected in fractional crystallization of an eutectic forming diastereoisomeric salt pair. The number of different modifications found by changing the solvent in case of this particular salt pair seems surprisingly high, but may occur for other diastereoisomeric salt pairs, too. The existing but not investigated polymorphism can be the explanation for the sometimes very poor reproducibility of the preparative resolutions.

Notes: Abstract Dimenhydrinate is a heat-sensitive antihistamine with a low melting point. The heat-sensitive feature is of importance if direct compression is used. Direct measurement of the heat originating in the texture of tablets during compression is very difficult. Thermoanalytical methods were used as indirect methods to describe the changes in material properties at high temperature: differential scanning calorimetry, thermomicroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis. Film coating method is widely used in pharmaceutical technology. A fluidized bed apparatus was applied to coat the crystals. The coating film forming agent was hydroxy-propyl-methylcellulose (HPMC), which is a gastric-soluble polymer. Thermoanalytical measurements reveal that dimenhydrinate crystals are sensitive to heat. Film coating method does not alter the shape of the DSC curve of dimenhydrinate, but increases the melting point. The presence of a macromolecular film reduces the thermal conductivity, because it separates the particles.

Notes: Abstract A number of 15 [Fe(Diox#x00B7;H)2L2] type chelates and [Fe(Diox)3(BOR)2] clathrochelates (Diox#x00B7;H2 — dimethylglyoxime, glyoxime, propoxime, nyoxime, furyl-dioxime; L-pyridine, alkyl-pyridine derivatives, diethyl-phenyl-phosphine, diethyl-p-tolyl-phosphine) were obtained and characterized by means of far and middle FTIR and Mössbauer spectroscopic methods. Some structural problems were discussed on the basis of the optical data. The DSC measurements show the higher thermal stability of the clathrochelates without O—H⋯O intramolecular hydrogen bonds (with asymmetric octahedral structure), as compared to the [Fe(Diox#x00B7;H)2L2] trans, symmetric chelates containing O—H⋯O bonds. The kinetic parameters of the thermal decomposition of the complexes have been derived using the nomogram method.

Notes: Abstract A thermal study using DSC and Hot Stage Microscopy (HSM) was carried out to investigate the interaction in solid state of the binary system PEG 4000 — oxazepam, and to establish their phase diagram. The eutectic composition, which melting occurs at lower temperature as compared with the pure components, has been determined. The results obtained by DSC and HSM have indicated that PEG 4000 — oxazepam mixtures displays no obvious incompatibilities, and that the system shows a typical eutectic behaviour. However because of the closeness of the melting of PEG 4000 to the eutectic temperature, it was difficult to determine precisely the eutectic composition and temperature on the basis of DSC measurements alone. The use of heats of fusion corresponding to physical mixtures allowed an estimation of the eutectic composition at 6% w/w oxazepam. Additional information of temperature (57.6

Notes: Abstract Solid inclusion complexes of TolperisoneHCl with five various cyclodextrins were prepared by kneading and spray drying. The complex formation between the drug and the cyclodextrins were proven using thermoanalytical methods, X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy. The results of the solid state investigations were supported by the liquid phase investigations, such solubility and parition constant measurements and stability constant determination. Among all cyclodextrins used the β- and γ-CD-s were found to be the best complexing agents.
