Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1. 3. Die gefundenen Unterschiede im Fettsäureverteilungsmuster waren z. T. signifikant.
Notes: Summary 1. Free fatty acid determinations were carried out in 21 patients with psoriasis on affected and symmetrically located nonaffected skin areas. The distribution of free fatty acids showed differences in psoriatics when compared with normal control subjects. 2. Comparison of affected and nonaffected skin sites also revealed differences in the free fatty acid distribution. 3. The differences obtained were statistically significant in several instances.

Notes: Abstract  Shoot hydraulic conductance was measured in beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) that had previously been exposed to high levels of nitrogen input. Whole-shoot hydraulic conductance, conductance per unit pressure gradient and leaf specific conductance were negatively correlated with the number of bud scars per unit length, a morphological parameter of tree decline. We propose a negative feedback mechanism by which stress induced alterations in shoot morphology can cause a lasting reduction of tree vigour.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1.
Notes: Summary 1. A procedure is described which permits to recover individual free fatty acids from relatively small areas (10 cm2) of the skin surface. 2. The fatty acids thus obtained are esterified quantitatively and subjected to separation by means of gas-chromatography. 3. Examination of different surface areas in 14 persons with healthy skin revealed regional differences in the composition of the free fatty acids. 4. Age and sex of the subjects studied thus far did not seem to be of any major importance.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung 1.
Notes: Summary 1. Renewed investigations were conducted on the question of lipid-spreading over the human skin surface. In addition, we wanted to clarify as far as possible, to what extent the relative constancy of the casual lipid level on the skin surface is due to chance-whiping and to what extent it is due to outward spreading. 2. For this purpose gravimetric assays were carried out of the ether-soluble materials present on the surface a) after walling off the test-area by means of a plastic ring—and b) after covering the ring on the outside by means of a perforated, sieve-like device. 3. The results have shown, that spreading does take place; and that the relative constancy of the casual level is in approximately the same measure caused by spread as it is by chance contact.
