Summary Based on the 11/2 year experience in the dietetic treatment of a child suffering from maple syrup urine disease, the connection between the concentration of the amino acids in blood, the excretion of the amino acids in urine, the therapeutic-dietetic application and exact dosed quantity of the branched-chain amino acids valin leucin and isoleucin, the effect of recurrent illnesses of the child, and the achieved success has been described. Moreover, special attention has been attached to the exact instructions for the combination of the diet and its adaption to the respective changes in the amino acid equilibrium (in blood and urine).

Zusammenfassung Auf Grund 11/2jähriger Erfahrung mit der diätetischen Behandlung eines Kindes mit Valin-Leucin-Urie (Ahornsirupurin-Krankheit) werden die Zusammenhänge zwischen den Aminosäurenkonzentrationen im Blut, der Aminosäurenausscheidung mit dem Harn, den therapeutischdiätetisch verabfolgten und genau dosierten Mengen der verzweigtkettigen Aminosäuren Valin, Leucin und Isoleucin, der Auswirkung von interkurrenten Erkrankungen des Kindes sowie den erreichten Erfolgen geschildert. Besonderer Wert wird dabei auf genaue Angaben für die Zusammensetzung der Diät und deren Anpassung an die jeweiligen Veränderungen des Aminosäurenhaushaltes (im Blut und Harn) gelegt.
