    Notes: Of primary concern in next generation inertial confinement fusion (ICF) implosion experiments is Rayleigh–Taylor (RT) instability of the pusher-fuel interface occurring upon acceleration and deceleration of the pusher. This results in mixing of hot fuel with cold pusher material. One method of diagnosing mix in this case is to place spectroscopic dopants both in the capsule fuel region and the innermost region of the capsule wall adjacent to the fuel. As the degree of pusher/fuel mix is increased (typically through placement of controlled perturbations on the outer surface of the capsule) the pusher dopant x-ray emission increases relative to that of the fuel dopant. Experiments of this type using indirectly driven implosions have been carried out on Nova. In this paper we describe some of the important physics issues underlying spectral line formation in these targets and discuss how they are manifested in the modeling and interpretation of experimental data. The importance of radiative transfer as well as high density plasma phenomena such as continuum lowering and Stark broadening is demonstrated. We provide an overview of recent Nova hydrodynamic instability experiments and discuss how the level of instability growth implicit in a given capsule design impacts the diagnosis of mix through x-ray spectroscopy. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: Abstract A study is made of axisymmetric, low sonic-Mach-number flows of a viscous fluid with angular momentum outside of a black-hole. The viscosity is an eddy viscosity due to turbulence in the sheared flows. Self-similar solutions arise naturally, reducing the Navier-Stokes equations to a set of nonlinear ordinary differential equations. These equations are solved analytically for flows of constant specific angular momentum and numerically for more general flows. For flows with non-constant specific angular momentum, the momentum flux density includes a planar discontinuity which is interpreted as an accretion disc. In general, two flow regions appear on each side of the disk, corresponding to accretion onto the disk and jet-like outflows along the ±z-axes. Physical interpretations of the solutions show that these flows arise in response to point sources of axial momentum at the origin directed in the ±z-directions. The power needed to maintain this momentum input is assumed to come from the mass accretion onto the black hole. The hydrodynamic flows are generalized to include a magnetic field. In the limit of infinite electrical conductivity, the possible types of flow patterns are the same as in hydrodynamic case. The magnetic field alters the relative amounts of reversible and irreversible momentum and angular momentum transport by the flow. For a flow with turbulent viscosity, the magnetic field acts to reduce the level of the turbulence and the effective value of the eddy viscosity.

    Notes: Abstract This paper describes the multi-dimensional Non-Local Thermodynamic Equilibrium (NLTE) simulation code GLF. GLF simulates those physical processes needed for modeling X-ray lasers: atomic kinetics, radiation transport, hydrodynamics and basic laser-plasma interactions. GLF is constructed to be modular, portable and efficient. This paper concentrates on the physical formulations and numerical methods used in GLF.

Een nauwkeurige vergelijking van twee isolaties, te weten het Nederlandse W.K.V. en het Amerikaanse W.C.M.V. (vanBancroft), met behulp van een aantal verschillende antisera (tabel 1) en in een proef, waarbij de antisera met wederzijdse virussen werden verzadigd (tabel 2), bracht geen kwantitatieve verschillen (stam-verschillen) aan het licht. Voor dergelijke kwantitatieve proeven is de uitwisseling van virusisolaties onvermijdelijk.
    Notes: Summary By means of the exchange of antisera a qualitative relationship could be established among a Dutch, some American, a Canadian and a German isolate of the white clover mosaic virus (fig. 1). An exact comparison of two isolates, viz. the Dutch W.K.V. and the American W.C.M.V. (ofBancroft), with a number of different antisera (table 1), and in a cross-absorption test (table 2), revealed no quantitative differences between these isolates. For such quantitative tests the exchange of virus isolates is inevitable.
