Contributions to the Chemistry of Halosilane Adducts, XI. Bis(1,10-phenanthroline) Complexes of Silicon, Synthesis, Structure, and PropertiesThe bis(1,10-phenanthroline) complexes 1-9 of silicon are prepared by the reaction of the base with diiodosilanes in chloroform. The general applicability of the method is demonstrated by the synthesis of complexes with a variety of different substituents on silicon. The complexes are ionic. In solution and in the solid state they contain the cis-octahedral [SiXYphen2]2+ cation (X, Y ≠ 1). Their solvolytic stabilities are similar to those of the corresponding bis(bipyridine) complexes. They are dependant on the substituents X and Y. These properties may be related to the relative acceptor strength of the silanes. Steric factors appear to be of little importance. I. r., 1H n. m. r., u. v. spectra, and reactions are reported.
Notes:
