Notes: Abstract An isothermal section at 1,100°C and at nitrogen pressures in the range of 1 to 300 bar of the system Ta-Mo-N has been examined by X-ray techniques. The composition range of the ternary Z-phase TaMoN has been investigated with respect to nitrogen content and metal composition. A new ternary phase was found at a composition of Ta3MoN3+x. Within the δ-Mo2N-phase up to 25% of the Mo-atoms can be replaced by Ta-atoms at nitrogen pressures of 300 bar, while only a small amount of the Taatoms can be replaced by Mo-atoms within the Ta-nitrides up to nitrogen pressures of 300 bar. Up to about 50% of the Mo-atoms can be substituted by W-atoms within the Z-phase.

Notes: Abstract The system Cr−Mn−N has been investigated by X-ray technique in three isothermal sections at 800, 1,000 and 1,200°C and at nitrogen pressures ranging from 1 to 800 atm. The binary compounds Cr2N and Mn2N form a complete series of solid solutions. The mononitride phase field extends from CrN to (Cr0.21Mn0.79)N0.80 at 1,000°C and 800 atm N2, whereas at normal pressure only a small portion of chromium atoms in CrN can be substituted by manganese atoms.

Notes: Abstract The system V−Mo−N has been investigated at 1,100°C and nitrogen pressures between 1 and 300 bar by X-ray techniques. The isotypic compounds VN and Mo2N are forming a complete series of solid solutions at nitrogen pressures〉30 bar. At a nitrogen pressure of 1 bar about 10% of the V-atoms can be replaced by Mo-atoms in the MN1-x -compounds. Within the M2N-phase V-atoms can be replaced by Mo-atoms in the range of 10%.

Notes: Abstract The system Nb−Mo−N has been investigated by X-ray techniques in an isothermal section at 1100δC and at nitrogen pressures ranging from 1 to 300 bar. In the binary phaseγ-Mo2N up to 23% of the Mo-atoms can be replaced by Nb-atoms at a nitrogen pressure of 300 bar, while only a small amount of molybdenum nitride is soluble in the binary nitrides of niobium even under high nitrogen pressures. The composition range of the ternary phase NbMoN has been investigated with respect to nitrogen content as well as metal composition. The possibility of substitution of Mo-atoms by W-atoms within theZ-phase has been checked.

Notes: Abstract The System V−Cr−N has been investigated at 1100 and 1400 °C and at nitrogen pressures between 1 and 1000 atmospheres by X-ray techniques. VN and CrN on the one hand and V2N and Cr2N on the other are forming complete series of solid solutions. The phase field of the mononitride solid solution is dependent on nitrogen pressure and temperature conditions.

Notes: Abstract The crystal structure of NbMoN1−x has been determined from X-ray powder patterns. It is isotypic with the formerly described1,2 complex nitrides NbCrN and Ta1−x Cr1+x N. The tetragonal unit cell contains 6 atoms and belongs to the space groupP4/nmm-D 4h 7. The lattice parameters are:a=3,095 Å,c=7,799 Å. The structure is characterized by relatively close packed double layers of Nb-atoms and Mo-atoms parallel to the base plane. The nitrogen atoms are within the octahedral interstitial sites.

Notes: Summary The fundamental importance of scientific research for the preservation and restoration of works of art is uncontestable. The methods described in this paper, such as light microscopy, microchemical tests, emission spectroscopy, chromatography, scanning electron analysis, electron microprobe analysis and infrared spectroscopy, are of special significance in this filed. Nevertheless a better understanding of the problems that arise out of new special questions of art history can be obtained only by the right interpretation of the data obtained by scientific methods.

Notes: Abstract An isothermal section at 1,200°C of the partial system La−LaN−LaC2 was examined by X-ray and metallographic techniques. There is no evidence of an appreciable solid solubility of carbon in LaN or of nitrogen in La2C3 or LaC2 at 1,200°C. There are indications however that at higher temperatures, especially that of the electric arc, the solubility of carbon in LaN might be appreciable or that a carbonitride phase of Lanthanum might exist. LaC2 reacts with nitrogen under pressure at 1,200°C to form a new carbonitride phase with the composition La1C0,88N0,77.
