Abstract. Carbon nitride nanocrystals were prepared using a pulsed laser induced liquid–solid interfacial reaction and transmission electron microscopy, while high resolution electron microscopy characterized their morphology and structure. It is important that the cubic-C3N4 phase was observed. The formation mechanism of the carbon nitride nanocrystals is also discussed.
