Notes: Collision-induced intersystem crossing rate constants from the (0,4,1) and (1,2,1) levels of the A˜ 1A2 to a˜ 3B1 state and rovibronic relaxation rate constants in the A˜ 1A2 state of SO2 have been studied. The laser wavelength was set at 335.86 and 334.09 nm for the (0,4,1) and (1,2,1) excitation, respectively. When a few rotational levels belonging to the (0,4,1) and (1,2,1) vibrational levels were populated by a narrow bandwidth laser, both the fluorescence from the A˜ 1A2 state and the phosphorescence from the a˜ 3B1 state were observed from the time resolved emission spectra. The decay behavior of the fluorescence signal showed fast and slow components. The radiative lifetimes and apparent quenching rate constants obtained from the fast component analysis are 38±5 and (9.8±0.2)×10−10 for (0,4,1) excitation and 33±5 μs and (1.0±0.1)×10−9 cm3 mol−1 s−1 for (1,2,1) excitation, respectively. The effective lifetimes and quenching rate constants for the slow component are 280±100 and (1.5±0.1)×10−10 for (0,4,1) excitation and they are 220±100 μs and (1.6±0.1)×10−10 cm3 mol−1 s−1 for (1,2,1) excitation. Based on the measured rate constants, kinetic simulations of the emission profiles were done to obtain the magnitudes of intersystem crossing and rovibronic relaxation rate constants. The magnitudes of the rovibronic relaxation and the intersystem crossing rate constants are found to be in the range of 8.5–10.0×10−10 and 1.3–1.5×10−10 cm3 mol−1 s−1, respectively. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract We report the magnetic resonance findings of an unusual hemangioma in the lesser omentum. A well-circumscribed, large mass was identified between the stomach and the left lobe of the liver, with compression of adjacent liver parenchyma. The mass showed low signal intensity (SI) on T1-weighted images, high SI on T2-weighted images with multiple septa, and slightly decreased SI on out-of-phase T1-weighted images. After gadolinium contrast administration, septa within the mass showed minimal enhancement on 30-s T1-weighted images and mild enhancement on 5-min T1-weighted images. The mass was histopathologically diagnosed as a cavernous hemangioma comprised of multiple vascular spaces, fibrotic tissue, and adipocytes.

Notes: Abstract. The purpose of this study was to define the abnormal findings of the prostate and seminal tract on magnetic resonance (MR) imaging by using an endorectal coil in patients with suspected obstructive infertility. MR imaging of the seminal tract with an endorectal surface coil was performed on 20 consecutive patients who were suspected of having obstructive infertility. Diffuse atrophy of the seminal vesicles (SVs) was seen in eight patients (40%) and was the most prevalent abnormal finding. It was most often associated with an irregular thickening of the vasa deferentia and small prostate (n = 4; 20%). Other abnormal findings were two mullerian duct cysts; and four cases of the aplasia of SV and vasa deferentia, three of which were associated with rudimentary mesonephric duct. MR imaging of the seminal tract with an endorectal surface coil can clearly demonstrate the various abnormalities of the seminal tract in obstructive infertility.

Notes: Abstract Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a diagnostic tool in abdominal tuberculous lymphadenopathy. Methods: MRI studies of 11 patients with histologically proven abdominal tuberculous lymphadenopathy were reviewed with regard to anatomic distribution, size, shape, degree, and pattern of enhancement and relation of the lesions to adjacent structures. Results: The most common site of involvement was the periportal area (n= 6), followed by the peripancreatic (n= 5), mesenteric (n= 1), and paraaortic (n= 1) areas. Eight patients were readily diagnosed as having tuberculous lymphadenopathy on abdominal computed tomography. Three patients had a heterogeneously enhancing masslike lesion adjacent to the pancreas and were initially diagnosed as having cystic tumor of the pancreas. On MRI, 11 lesions showed T1 iso- or hypointensity and central T2 hyperintensity. Two lesions showed T1 iso- or hypointensity and central T2 hypointensity. The lesions with different T2 signal intensities showed different patterns of enhancement on contrast-enhanced dynamic studies. The relations between the enlarged lymph nodes and adjacent bile ducts or vascular structrues were well depicted on MRI. Conclusion: MRI was useful in differentiating enlarged lymph nodes abutting the pancreas initially diagnosed as cystic neoplasms on abdominal computed tomography. Notes: Abstract We present three cases of focal eosinophilic infiltration in the liver that mimicked hepatic malignancy on computed tomography during hepatic arteriography (CTHA) and computed tomography during arterial portography (CTAP). In all patients, focal eosinophilic liver infiltration appeared as a solitary nodule or as two nodules without hepatosplenomegaly and showed homogeneous hyperattenuation on CTHA and hypoattenuation on CTAP.

Notes: Abstract Using the modified yeast expression vectors that contained phosphoglycerate kinase or chelatin promoter with the adenine (A) base at –3 position from the ATG coding sequences and the leu-2 gene, recombinant human inter-leukin-6 ( rhIL-6) was produced as a b-galactosidase ( lacZ) fusion protein in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Expression level of the IL-6-lacZ was 12 times higher than that from the unmodified wild type plasmids and IL-6 activity was 9–9.8 x 10 5 unit/mg yeast total protein. Thus these modified yeast vectors are useful for high expression of foreign genes in yeast
