Reactions of 2,3-Dihydro-thiazolo[3,2-a]benzimidazol-3-one and its 2-Substituted DerivativesGrignard reagents add to the exocyclic C = C-bond in 2-arylidene-2,3-dihydro-thiazolo[3,2-a]-benzimidazol-3-ones 2, but to the carbonyl group in 2-[p-dimethylamino-phenylimino]-2,3-dihydro-thiazolo[3,2-a] benzimidazol-3-one 10. 2-Arylazo-2,3-dihydrothiazolo[3,2-a]-benzimidazol-3-ones 8 undergo opening of the thiazole ring when treated with Grignard reagents. - The 2-arylidene derivatives 2 react with diazomethane to give the corresponding α-methyl derivatives 12. Structural assignments have been supported by IR and NMR spectra. The amides 14 of 2-benzimidazolylmercaptoacetic acid (6) are available by the action of amines on 2,3-dihydro-thiazolo[3,2-a]benzimidazol-3-one (4).

Grignard-Reagenzien addieren sich bei 2-Aryliden-2,3-dihydro-thiazolo[3.2-a]benzimidazolonen-(3) 2 an die exocyclische C = C-Bindung, bei den entsprechenden 2-[p-Dimethylaminophenylimino]-Verbindungen 10 aber an die C = O-Gruppe. Bei den 2-Arylazo-2.3-dihydrothiazolo[3.2-a]benzimidazolonen-(3) 8 wird mit Grignard-Reagenzien der Thiazol-Ring geöffnet. - Die 2-Benzyliden-Verbindungen reagieren mit Diazomethan zu den α-Methyl-Derivaten 12, deren Struktur durch IR- und NMR-Spektren gestützt wird. Die Amide 14 der Benzimidazolyl-(2)-mercaptoessigsäure (6) sind durch Einwirkung von Aminen auf 2.3-Dihydro-thiazolo[3.2-a]benzimidazolon-(3) (4) zugänglich.
