Notes: Ovulation was stimulated in four groups of European catfish, Silurus glanis L., using injections of des-Gly10, [D-Ala6]-LHRH Ethylamide (20 μg kg–1) and pimozide (10 mg kg–1), Ovaprim (0.33 mL kg–1), and carp pituitary extract (4 mg kg–1, in one or two doses). A higher percentage of ovulating females (producing eggs of sufficient quality) was found after the LHRH-a and Ovaprim treatments (100% and 80%) in relation to fish treated with the pituitary extract (60% and 66.67%). The greatest weight of eggs was obtained in the case of repeated hypophysation and LHRH-a (1299.69 and 1298.57 g, respectively), and the smallest after single hypophysation (1144.08 g). After 60 h of incubation, the best quality of eggs was found in the group treated with Ovaprim (62.9% of live embryos) and the poorest in the two groups which underwent hypophysation (50.41% and 50.75%). No statistically significant effect by the ovulation stimulators on the characteristic qualitative and quantitative traits of obtained eggs was ascertained.

Notes: Milt of common carp, Cyprinus carpio L. was cryopreserved in pellet form with the use of 12 extenders. Most efficient were: BE2 original extender (containing 85 mM NaCl, 50 mM KCl, 3 mm CaCl2, 1 mm MgCl2 with 10% dimethyl-acetamide (DMA) and 10% addition of hen's egg yolk) and Kurokura et al.'s extender with 15% DMA and 10% yolk (about 73% and 69% of eyed eggs, about 61% and 52% of swim-up larvae, respectively). Within the most effective treatments, survival from the eyed-egg stage to the swim-up stage was similar to that observed in the control group. Survival from the eyed-egg stage to the swim-up stage (percentage of eyed eggs was considered as 100%) was highly significantly and positively correlated with the actual rate of swim-up larvae.

Notes: Abstract For a categoryK of data types, solutions of recursive data-type equationsX ℞T(X), whereT is an endofunctor ofK, can be constructed by iteratingT on the unique arrowT1 → 1. This is well-known forK enriched over complete posets and forT locally continuous (an application of the Kleene Fixed-Point Theorem). We prove this forK enriched over complete metric spaces and forT contracting (an application of the Banach Fixed-Point Theorem). Moreover, we prove that each such recursive equation has a unique solution. Our results generalize the approach of P. America and J. Rutten.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract The conclusions about the simultaneous course of reduction of Resazurin to Resorufin and Resorufin to Dihidroresorufin were verified in this work. The conditions for the quantitative titanometric determination of Resazurin and its derivatives were found.

Notes: Abstract Injective objects in concrete categories frequently turn out to be objects with particularly pleasant properties. Often some form of “completeness” provides a characterization of injectivity in such a category, with injective hulls achieved through certain standard completion processes. Several results during the past decade have shown that certain specific ”topological” categories are precisely the injective objects in various natural quasicategories of concrete categories, with injective hulls obtained via certain sieve constructions. When the base category is trivial, some of these results specialize to classical results in certain categories of ordered structures; e.g., the injectives in posets characterized as complete lattices, with injective hulls the MacNeille completions, and the injectives in semilattices characterized as locales, with injective hulls the locale hulls. This paper contains two main results. The first provides a characterization of injective objects in a setting sufficiently general as to include the above mentioned characterizations as well as many others. The second theorem gives a characterization of those objects that have injective hulls, and provides a construction of the hulls as well. Corollaries of this theorem yield numerous known injective hull constructions. The second theorem uses a much stronger hypothesis than the first. That this hypothesis is indispensible follows from a result of E. Nelson on the non-existive of injective hulls of certain σ-semilattices.

Notes: Abstract Locally presentable categories are precisely those complete categories which have a small dense subcategory. Every subcategory of a locally presentable category (i) has a small dense subcategory, (ii) if it is closed under limits, then it is locally presentable and (iii) if it is closed under colimits, then it is coreflective. For density, canonical colimits can be substituted by arbitrary colimits. The above results hold under the assumption of the set-theoretical Vopenka's Principle; in fact, each of them is logically equivalent to that principle.
