Notes: The improvement of luminosity and luminous efficiency is the one of the most important tasks in alternating current plasma display panels. The influence of gas mixture ratio, Ne–Xe and He–Ne(27%)–Xe(3%), on luminosity and luminous efficiency in surface discharge alternating-current plasma display panels has been investigated. It is found that discharge power does not strongly depend on the gas mixtures, while the luminosity for three species mixture gas, He–Ne(27%)–Xe(3%), is shown to be much higher than those for the two species mixture gas of Ne–Xe. The three species mixture gas, He–Ne(27%)–Xe(3%), can be suggested as the one of the candidates for achieving high luminosity and luminous efficiency for color plasma display panels, based on the experimental observations of luminosity, discharge power, response time, and efficiency. © 2000 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: We present the wave propagation characteristics of photonic quantum ring lasers with clear evidence of the evanescence-propagation crossover behavior. The data obtained from the fiber probe measurements of 15–36 μm disk size lasers show that the Rayleigh's whispering gallery modes always give rise to the propagation mode, with the crossover ranges of 55–80 μm. The three-dimensional but chiral and broken z-axis symmetry nature of the photonic quantum ring cavity appears to guarantee such a crossover to the propagation in general. © 2001 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Abstract A modified elliptic low-pass filter function with progressively diminishing ripples in both the passband and the stopband is proposed and analyzed. The modified elliptic function is realizable by the passive doubly-terminated ladder network for the order n even or odd, thus lending themselves amenable to high-quality low-sensitivity active RC or switched capacitor filters through the simulation techniques. Besides the passive ladder network realization, the modified elliptic function has improved characteristics both in the frequency domain and the time domain as compared with the classical elliptic function. In addition, the modified function exhibits better magnitude sensitivity properties than the classical function.
