Notes: Abstract Spinal cord sarcoidosis is a rare disorder whose natural history and therapeutic outcome are not fully known. We examined four patients with spinal cord sarcoidosis both clinically and radiologically, particularly in relation to corticosteroid treatment. The initial manifestation was cervical myelopathy in three and uveitis in one. All four patients progressed slowly until corticosteroid therapy was initiated. The cervial spine was involved in all patients. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed spinal cord swelling with T2-weighted high intensity and linear leptomeningeal and patchy or diffuse intramedullary enhancement with gadolinium diethylene triaminepentaacetic acid. With corticosteroid therapy, dramatic improvement was seen on MRI, including disappearance or marked reduction of swelling and enhancement. Plasma levels of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) were also markedly improved. In contrast, the clinical symptoms were little improved in one patient, unchanged in two, and rather worsened in one patient. Recurrence was seen on MRI at the maintenance dose in all four patients, without any dramatic change in clinical manifestation. MRI findings and plasma ACE are well correlated with active leasion of the spinal cord sarcoidosis, providing a useful marker for recurrence, but do not parallel the clinical manifestations.

Notes: The processes of adsorptive and reactive dyeings of polymer film in a finite bath were formulated on the basis of pore model concept. The influence of the bath ratio on the fractional uptake or fixation was numerically analyzed. The time of half-dyeing is proportional to the bath ratio to the power of about 0.9 within the present computational conditions. This fact is in contrast to the finding that, in an infinite bath with the same dye concentration as the initial value in a finite bath, the time of half-dyeing is inversely proportional to the dye concentration. The relation of the total uptake or fixation to the dimensionless dyeing time θ multiplied by γ0.9 is independent of the bath ratio within an error of 5% or 8%.

Notes: The dyeing kinetics of an acid dye (C. I. Acid Blue 40) in a nylon 6 film were investigated using partition-cell and film-roll methods at 80°C and pHs 2.3 and 3.05. The concentration dependence of diffusion coefficient of the dye in the nylon substrate measured by both methods was interpreted in terms of parallel diffusion with biomodel sorption of the Nernst and Langmuir modes. As the concentration of dye increases, the transport of dye inside the nylon film becomes dominated by pore diffusion and surface diffusion of sorbed Nernst populations.

Notes: The process of dyeing with reactive dyes was formulated on the basis of diffusion of dye species in the pores of polymer phase accompanied by fixation reaction with fiber substrate on the pore wall incorporating hydrolysis of dye species. The effect of the hydrolysis on the fractional fixation was numerically analyzed under various levels of bath ratio and degree of mixing in the dyebath. The simulation model was presented to yield the unlevelness arisen from lack of uniformity of degree of mixing in the dyebath.

Notes: The concentration dependence derived from both steady-state permeation and unsteady-state dyeing runs for a system of acid dye C. I. Acid Blue 182-nylon 6 film was analyzed in terms of parallel diffusion with simultaneous multimodal adsorption proposed in the previous paper. The present dyeing process was governed by the surface diffusion incorporating three kinds of Langmuirean adsorption modes. The concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficient of the cationic dye C. I. Basic Red 22 in the anionically modified polyester fiber Dilana measured by Ostrowska et al. [B. Ostrowska, A. Narebska, and H. Krzystek, J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 26, 463 (1981)] was satisfactorily interpreted by the parallel diffusion incorporating two kinds of Langmuirean adsorption modes.

Notes: The concentration-dependence measured by steady-state permeation and unsteady-state dyeing methods for a system of acid dye C.I.Acid Blue 182-nylon 6 film in the presence of inorganic salts such as NaCl, Na2SO4, and K2SO4, was analyzed in terms of parallel diffusion with simultaneous multimodal adsorption. It would found that the dyeing process with added NaCl was governed by surface diffusion with two kinds of Langmuir adsorption, whereas with added Na2SO4 and K2SO4 it was governed by surface diffusion with three kinds of Langmuir adsorption.
