Description / Table of Contents: Summary Workers of the antT.s. phoenicea were extracted with ether and the ethereal extract was analysed using the combined GC/MS technique. The presence in this extract of myristic, palmitic, linoleic, oleic, stearic acid and of cholesterol is also confirmed by coinjection in gas chromatography. It was found that the free fatty acids are not localized in the pharyngeal glands and their qualitative and quantitative distribution in the antT.s. phoenicea is caste independent. Determination of the relative abundance of the free fatty acids and of cholesterol in the extract ofT.s. phoenicea indicates that oleic acid is the major constituent (5,59%) while myristic acid is the minor constituent (0,26%). The absence of formic acid inT.s. phoenicea although it is not a fatty acid, is discussed from a taxonomic point of view.

Description / Table of Contents: Abstract
Notes: Abstract By chemical trapping, an acyl species has been evidenced in the oxidation of alcohols to carboxylate on an alumina surface. A possible reacton scheme is discussed.
