Notes: Abstract The energies and spectroscopic factors ofJ π=5/2+ states of nucleus91Nb excited via a reaction transferring a proton to the 2d 5/2 orbit of90Zr target state have been calculated. Effective two-body interaction used has been extracted from the experimentally observed two-body energies of (1g 9 2/−1 (n) 2d 5/2(n)), (1g 9 2/−1 (n) 1g 9/2(p)) and (1g 9/2(p)-2d 9/2(n)) multiplets in90Zr,90Nb and92Nb nuclei respectively. Most of the calculated energies and the strengths ofJ π=5/2+ levels have reasonably good counterparts in the experimental spectrum, however the calculation shows about 17% strength lying at 6.8 MeV, without having a confirmed counterpart in the observed level scheme. The reduced transition strengthsB(M1) forM l transitions from 5/2− T〉(11/2) state to the various components of 5/2+ T〈(=9/2) state have also been reported; but the corresponding experimental values are not available. The main feature of the reduced transition strengths is that theM1 transition to the state at 3.69 MeV is inhibited whereas that to the state at 6.79 MeV is enhanced, the relevant core-configuration, interfering destructively in the former case and constructively in the latter.

Description / Table of Contents: Zusammenfassung Die Extraktionsbedingungen für Ir(III) und Os(VIII) als Phenanthrenchinonmonoximate mit geschmolzenem Naphthalin wurden ermittelt.
Notes: Summary Conditions have been established for the extraction of iridium (III) and osmium(VIII) as their phenanthrenequinone monoximates into molten naphthalene. The naphthalene is allowed to solidify, separated by filtration, dried with filter paper and dissolved in chloroform. The absorbance is measured at 470 nm for iridium and 475 nm for osmium. Beer's law is obeyed in the concentration ranges 3.2–38.6μg of iridium and 1.0–10.9μg of osmium in 10 ml of chloroform. The molar absorptivities are 2.3×104 and 8.8×104l. mole−1.cm−1 for iridium and osmium respectively. The optimum pH range for the extraction is 4.6–7.4 for iridium and 6.8–10.5 tor osmium. Interferences have been studied in detail and the method successfully applied to various synthetic mixtures. The two metals can be determined sequentially (in the absence of interfering ions), osmium first.

Notes: Summary Backcross populations of maize (Zea mays L.) were produced by crossing the early maturing inbred line W153R with the highland Mexican race Cónico then backcrossing to W153R (Q1 population) and by crossing W153R with the highland Peruvian race San Gerónimo then backcrossing to W153R (Q3 population). The populations were recombined by one generation of random mating. Testcrosses were produced from S0 plants in the original and recombined versions and these were evaluated in New Zealand for grain yield, grain moisture and other traits. Unexpected changes occurred during recombination for increased grain yield in the Q1 population and for decreased grain moisture in the Q3 population. This indicates strong, unplanned selection. Many testcrosses were higher yielding than check hybrids of W153R, but most were later maturing. S1 lines selected for high grain yield and acceptable grain moisture in testcrosses were advanced to the S2 generation and re-tested. All produced testcrosses with lower grain moisture than late maturing hybrid checks. Testcross grain yields of one Q1 line were equivalent to those of late maturing checks and its testcross had a lower grain moisture. The high yield potential of hybrids of this line was confirmed in the S4 generation.

Description / Table of Contents: Epoxidharze wurden unter Verwendung verschiedener Molverhältnisse von Epichlorhydrin und Bisphenol-A hergestellt und anschließend mit vier verschiedenen Härtern ausgehärtet, nämlich mit Diaminodiphenylmethan (DADPM), Dithioterephthalsäure (DTTPH), Dimethylaminopropylamin (DMAPA) und Diäthylentriamin (DT).
Notes: Epoxy resins were prepared using various molar ratios of epichlorohydrin and bisphenol-A and then cured with four different hardeners: diaminodiphenyl methane (DADPM), dithioterephthalic acid (DTTPH), dimethylamino propylamine (DMAPA) and diethylene triamine (DT). The thermal behaviour of these epoxy resins was studied. From the energy of activation data it was observed that DADPM gives the highest thermal stability of all these curing agents. Dielectric constant measurements of uncured resins were made at 30°C and at a frequency of 2.5 × 103 Hz. The higher activation energies of the resins are related to the polarity of the hydroxyl moiety in the epoxy resins.

Description / Table of Contents: Es wurden Epoxidharze mit unterschiedlichen Molekulargewichten aus Epichlorhydrin und 4,4′-Sulfonyldiphenol (SDP) und aus Epichlorhydrin und Bisphenol A (BA) hergestellt.
Notes: Epoxy resins of different molecular weights were prepared from epichlorohydrin and 4,4′-sulfonyldiphenol (SDP) and from epicholorohydrin and bisphenol A (BA). They were cured at high temperatures with four different crosslinking agents, including aliphatic and aromatic amines. The thermal behaviour of these cured epoxy resins was studied. From the IPDT and IDT data it was observed that sulfone epoxy resins were thermally more stable than bisphenol A epoxy resins. The activation energies of thermal degradation of the resins were calculated and the implications of these results are discussed.
