Zusammenfassung Bulk currents in anthracene crystals in the dark and under irradiation with visible and near-infrared light are greatly enhanced by exposing the crystals to an iodine atmosphere. The dependence of the dark currents on time, voltage, and crystal temperature is markedly influenced by the ambient iodine. For the photocurrent the dependence on wavelength, intensity, voltage, and preceding irradiation with light of different spectral regions is reported. A qualitative interpretation is put forward in terms of hole injection. The injection capability of the anode can be improved by raising the iodine-vapour pressure. The holes, forming a space charge in the crystal, are captured by traps from which they can be released by photons or by excitons created by light.
