Notes: This paper presents and discusses the latest achievements in the manufacture of threedimensionally curved aluminum profiles using an integrated bar extrusion process. While the conventional process chain lacks applicability and quality especially in low volume production, the new technology is promising, but still needs research to understand the correlation between the product to be manufactured and the contour accuracy to be achieved. This paper shows first resultson the manufacture using a robot-guided second guiding tool and direct air quenching. The results will have an impact on further processing steps

Notes: Curved Profile Extrusion (CPE) is an extension of the common extrusion process andoffers the possibility to manufacture three-dimensionally curved profiles. Due to the flexibility ofthe process different curvatures can be produced with the same setup, which makes this techniqueefficient especially for low volume production. The process is characterized by a controlled lateraldeflection of the strand which influences the material flow in the die and causes the profilecurvature. In this paper, a direct comparison of the power rating between warm bending and CPE ispresented. Furthermore, the investigations concerning the choice of support strategy of thesurmounting profile by a robot to increase the curvature accuracy are continued. Finally, someextensions of the equipment are explained to increase the level of process integration

Notes: New innovative direct extrusion process variants, curved profile extrusion (CPE), twistedprofile extrusion (TPE), and hollow profile extrusion (HPE), which increase the flexibility ofaluminum profile manufacturing processes, are presented in this paper. These processes arecharacterized by influencing the material flow inside the die so that the forming process iscompleted when exiting the die. On the one hand, three-dimensionally curved profiles are producedand analyzed by CPE regarding the accuracy, the influencing parameters, and the compensationstrategies. On the other hand, TPE and HPE make it possible to manufacture helical profiles usable, for example, as screw rotors in fluid machinery

Notes: Abstract The plasma-membrane H+-pump in guard cells generates the driving force for the rapid ion fluxes required for stomatal opening. Since our electrophysio-logical studies revealed a two fold higher pump-current density in guard cells than in mesophyll cells of Vicia faba L. we elucidated the biochemical properties of this proton-translocating ATPase in plasma-membrane vesicles isolated from both cell types. The capability of the H+ —ATPase to create an H+ gradient is maintained in plasma-membrane vesicles derived from purified guard cells via blender maceration, high-pressure homogenization and polymer separation. The H+-pumping activity of these vesicles coincides with the presence of two polypeptides of approx. 100 and 92 kDa which are recognized by a monoclonal antibody raised against the plasma-membrane H+-ATPase from Zea mays L. coleoptiles. Comparison of H+-pumping activities of isolated membranes revealed an approximately two fold higher activity in guard cells than in mesophyll cells with respect to the total membrane protein content. Furthermore, we demonstrated by western blotting that the difference in pump activities resulted from a higher abundance of the electroenzyme per unit membrane protein in guard-cell plasma membranes. We suggest that the high H+-pump capacity is necessary to enable guard cells to respond to sudden changes in the environment by a change in stomatal aperture.
