Notes: A newly developed numerical Laplace transform inversion technique is described. A derivation of the method, termed the ‘multidata method’, is presented along with a description of a similar collocation method. Similarities and differences between the two numerical methods are described and discussed. Results of parameter studies of both methods are presented which demonstrate the sensitivity to error displayed by the collocation method and the magnitude of the improvement in accuracy obtainable with the multidata method as compared with the collocation method, especially when errors exist in the function to be inverted.

Notes: Shape functions are given for a six node triangular element in which the √r displacement filed varies quadratically in the circumferential direction. Using a convenient co-ordinate system the stiffness development is sketched and the integrations re done exactly in the radial co-ordinate direction. Brief numerical results are presented. Shape functions for a 15 node three-dimensional element are given explicitly. The shape functions provide both constant strain capability and conformability with quadratic isoparametric elements.

Notes: A finite element procedure, which utilizes Fourier series, is developed to compute the large deformations and deflections in axisymmetric elastomeric solids subjected to non-axisymmetric loading. Nearly incompressible and incompressible, isotropic strain energy density functions describe the elastic properties. The nearly incompressible functions become compatible with an analytical integration scheme by using a novel variable to approximate the dilatation. A large spherical elastomeric bearing is analysed with this procedure.
