Notizen: Structural modification of PMMA was done by copolymerizing it with low mole fraction (≤ 0.1) of N-phenyl maleimide (NPM) using benzoyl peroxide as an initiator. Four copolymers were prepared by changing the mole fraction of NPM in the monomer feed from 0.025 to 0.1. The copolymer composition was determined by 1H-NMR. An increase in NPM content resulted in an increase in Tg of copolymers. Tensile stress and % elongation decreased, whereas modulus increased with an increase in NPM content. The Flexural strength was not affected by the NPM content. The dynamic mechanical properties were also evaluated in the temperature range of-20 to 100°C. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notizen: The article describes the effect of incorporating low mol fractions of N-o-tolymaleimide (MO)/N-p-tolymaleimide (MP) in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) on Tg, thermal behavior, mechanical, and optical properties. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of PMMA increased by 10-12°C upon incorporation of an ∼ 0.026 mol fraction of N-arylmaleimides. A further increase of N-arylmaleimide content up to 0.1 mol fraction in the copolymers resulted in a further ∼ 10°C increase in Tg. The tensile strength and % elongation decreased, whereas modulus increased with increasing maieimide content. The solar transmittance and % transmittance at higher wavelengths of the copolymer sheets having a low mol fraction of N-arylmalemides (i.e., 0.026-0.05) were comparable to PMMA. © 1995 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Notizen: The work describes the synthesis and characterization of copolymers of methyl methacrylate (MMA) and N-o-tolyl maleimide (MO)/N-p-tolyl maleimide (MP)/4-maleimido benzoic acid (MB). The copolymers were synthesized by varying the mol fraction of N-aryl maleimides from 0.1 to 0.5 in the initial feed using azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) as an initiator and tetrahydrofuran as the solvent. The copolymer composition was determined from the 1H-NMR spectra by taking the ratio of proton resonance signals due to —OCH3 of MMA (δ=3.59 ppm) and the aromatic protons (δ=7.0-7.3 ppm) of N-aryl maleimides. The monomer reactivity ratios of MMA-MP were r1=0.926±0.001 and r2=0.47±0.03 and MMA-;MO were r1=1.37±0.005 and r2=0.31±0.01. The initial decomposition temperature of copolymers and glass transition temperatures increased with increasing N-aryl maleimide content in the backbone. © 1994 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
